Cytronex Powered Cannondale Capo

G-Rating

The basics

The Cytronex Powered Cannondale Capo is the world's lightest and fastest electric bike. It looks and handles like the same bicycle without power assistance. The battery looks like a water bottle, the hub motor is about the same size as a dynamo and there is no mess of cables and switches. It weighs as little as 13.6Kg.

Despite Suzi commenting that the saddle was not comfortable I thought the Cytronex-powered Cannondale Capo was very elegant and I would like one, after all saddles can be changed!

This looks fantastic & I thought it should have been chosen for the courier test as it was by far the best of the selection

usually the Gadget Show balances the facts with spin but last nights electric bike review just looked lost in attention seeking spin! this spectacular looking bike, easily the most desirable was disqualified by Susie's fear of sleek saddles (less dougnuts from now on Susie) why didnt Jason take it on the test instead of that laughable contraption? we should be told.....

Hello Steve The August review in AtoB magazine (indepent ebike specialists) found a range of 24 miles on one battery charge with the Cytronex Powered Capo. Also Cytronex powered bikes hold the speed record on AtoB's 10 mile speed circuit, both in the road legal (assitance up to 15mph) and the off road (no ceiling) categories. Basically this is acheived by combining a very lightweight system with powerful assistance, giving a high power to weight ratio. In the case of the Capo the assistance helps to accelerate the bike very quickly to the optimum efficiency speed for both rider and hub motor. We produce a wide range of bikes with Cytronex "hidden assistance" including the Capo, Cannondal Synapse (27 gears, 15Kg), Genesis, Claud Butler and Ridgeback. If you search for "Cytronex" there are lots of technical details on our site and click on the "Models" menu item to see the current range, which are assembled in Winchester. I haven't given a link in case this gets removed. Regards, Mark Searles Cytronex

I want to add a comment as given that this bike not only looks fab but according to Mark from Cytronex is proven as the fastest ebike I agree with Tom and Marcus, why didn't Jason choose it for the challenge, he's a speed merchant and the challenge was all about speed? The A2B looks weird, nothing like a bicycle, with enormous chunky tyres and must be very heavy to manoeuvre in traffic. I have looked on the Cytronex website and the Capo is described as a single speed bike, ideal for London! What a shame Suzi did not ask for the comfier saddle option I mentioned in my previous post (there are some v comfortable female racing saddles - I have one) , she would have thrashed Jason instead of just pipping him at the post!

Not enough substance... we watch the show because we are gadget freaks, not because we enjoy entertaining mini-series of the interplay between the presenters! I watched the videos on the web to gain an insight into electric bikes (having missed that episode) as I am thinking of buying one. Unfortunately there was no useable information on them at all. Are they difficult to pedal when not assisted? Can they go up steep hills? How much does the weight of the rider affect them? Range? etc. etc. These type of challenges are always the same - directed and edited so that it is forever neck and neck. Obvious and boring and a waste of time when that time could be better spent on the gadgets!

Just in case you are curious, I bought one of these about 2 weeks ago and after conditioning the battery have been consistantly getting 35-37 miles each use - thats 2 days of commuting with a bit left over to make it to the pub! Im pedalling as quite hard as I go, but in a sort of relaxed steady way and not stinting in the electric boost in the slightest. Im delighted with it, and its nice that you dont stand out. It looks and sounds completely normal. It must puzzle some other cyclists when I power up a hill.

I'm researching Cytronex bikes as I am looking to purchase one through my employer (with the Cycle to Work Scheme,) and I'm undecided whether to buy a geared bike or single speed (like the Capo.) I have noticed that a few of the models have been discontinued, so other than one Claud Butler machine, they exclusively use Cannondale machines. Fingers crossed I'll be the proud owner of a Cytronex powered bike soon and I can begin the long road to fitness after years of driving the 25 mile round trip a day to and from work.
