Is anybody else having trouble with it filling up with water???

Bought one of these for £39.99 from EMF hobbies in Glasgow. First time out it filled up with water motor cut out and sank. Phoned shop and guy there said without boat no refund and it was probably the way I used it which caused it to sink. I should have put tape round the canopy!!!!. No mention of this in the instructions. (I've been rc modelling for 10 years- first boat though) Got a guy at the park with waders to go in and fish it out took it back to shop. Guy returned it to Ripmax for inspection and about 5 days later got a new one. Apparent problem with old one was a small tear in the tube feeding water to the heatsink on motor causing boat to fill up with water. Also i noticed the the speed controller wasnt sealed properly at the motor wires end so that would account for the motor cutting out once water got in. (although guy in the model shop still got a dig in that it was probably me that was the problem) The new boat is noticaebly slower but I cant be bothered with the hassle of dealing with the same shop again and getting it exchanged again. (a new motor is £5 so I'm going to try that) Anyway. Sealed new boat up with tape around canopy and there is still water ingress from somewhere. I suspect the motor shaft exit or the rudder linkage grommet. Also I noticed that on both boats the throttle stutters every now and then and also steers better right than left (mentions this steering attribute in the manual though). Steering feels very mushy sometimes and other times fails to respond at all. Sometimes turns very sharp and other times turns in a large arc with the same steering input. This happens in both directions. You get about 8 mins on a full charge with the power dropping off noticeably after about 3 mins. It takes about 1 hour to charge. ( I have 2 batteries and both behave the same) Just my tuppence worth but theres no denying it's a lot of fun when it's running properly.

This is a great boat, I got one in the summer and have used it twice, it is very nimble and adjile. So if you want a cheap boat to take down the local lake; this is the boat for you!

What a stunning piece of kit. Fast, agile, great fun and a doddle to set up. Roll on summer and spare batteries and this baby is going to see alot of water. Every home needs a Magic Vee.

Total scam - i think the Gadget Show oversold its crednetials - battery is rubbish, mine also sank after 5 minutes after having filled wth water -

i got one of these a few months ago. It was amazing for the first few weeks, however when I tried it on a local river, water got in and my magic vee no longer works. If you are a real RC enthusiast i would replace the original brushed motor with a small brushless motor and seal the boat up properly.
Report as inappropriateAnonymous03 May 2012
It needs setting up properly as turns are not the same left and right. small amount of water gets in but not much. good fun for the money
