LG Optimus L3

G-Rating

Rating of 2

The basics

LG’s Optimus 3 is a touchscreen smartphone with a 3.2-inch display that runs the Android 2.3 operating system. Its key features include 1GB of built-in memory, external memory storage via a microSD memory card and a 3-megapixel camera.

The good

Android 2.3 might be an old interface compared tot he latest Android 4.0 and Android Jelly Bean operating systems, but it still does a great job. It has multiple homescreens you can use to place your favourite apps and social network shortcuts to make the Optimus L3 your own. Everything you need is constantly at your fingertips. The Optimus L3 has only 1GB of internal storage, but with a microSD card slot allowing for up to 32GB, the Optimus L3 potentially has plenty of room for photos, video, music and games downloaded from Google Play. The web-browsing experience is also rather decent. The experience isn’t the quickest, but you’ll still be able to browse your social networks, check your email, and catch up on the stories from your favourite websites with little struggle. Battery life is also very good, you’ll easily be able to use all of its features and not have to worry about its charge running out at the end of the day.

The bad

The Optimus L3’s screen isn’t the best by a long shot. That is to be expected from a low budget device. Its 240 x 320 pixel resolution is rather average, and doesn’t fair too well in bright conditions either. The amount of glare makes it difficult to read in sunlight without tilting the device at awkward angles. The camera too, is a basic affair, with no flash and poor picture quality. And don’t think about zooming - it renders most photos useless. Video quality doesn’t fare much better. The resolution is low, and recordings aren’t the kind you’ll want to share on Facebook.

The bottom line

The LG Optimus L3 is an easy to use smartphone that will suit many needs. It has a great battery life, can download apps and delivers a decent web browsing experience, but that doesn’t stop it being distinctly average in every other area.
