HTC Desire C

G-Rating

Rating of 3

The basics

The HTC Desire C is an Android 4.0 smartphone with a 3.5-inch display and a 600MHz speed processor. It has a total storage of 4GB, and a 512MB RAM. There’s also a microSD memory card slot. If you’ve got a memory card you can store photos, videos and music to share with the device.

The good

The HTC Desire C is an entry-level phone, but HTC hasn’t skimped on its design. There are nice touches everywhere you look. Even when you life the cover off, the red interior screams out as if to say “look at me.” The cover is plastic, but the build quality is still great. The Desire C is nice phone to hold. Its curves make the device feel pleasant in the hand. And it’s dead light, too, weighing just 100 grams.

The user experience is top-notch. With Android 4.0 on board, menus are clear and easy to navigate. Both sets of controls, in-screen and the three touch controls on the device make using the HTC Desire C feel straightforward. Browsing menus, apps, and Google Maps works delightfully well.

For an entry-level device you get a nice array of features that you won’t find on some rival entry-level devices, including sound powered by Beats Audio technology. Audio sounds better than you’ll discover on many rival entry-level smartphones.

The HTC Desire C also has a 5-megapixel camera, 3.5mm stereo audio jack, Bluetooth 4.0 for syncing with wireless devices such as a Bluetooth headset and music enhanced by Beats Audio technology.

The bad

The display isn’t at the same level of HTC’s more stellar smartphones such as the HTC Desire One X. Its 480 x 320 pixel display isn’t as clear, or as bright, but still manages to cope adequately in bright conditions, but don’t expect it to blow you away.

The camera is fixed focus, which means you’ll never get close to the high quality photos possible on more advanced smartphones. You’ll need steady hands to get the best shots from the Desire C. There’s also no flash.

Battery life leaves a fair bit to be desired. With reasonable usage, without going overboard on internet and app usages, the HTC Desire C can get you through a day, but just about.

The bottom line

The HTC Desire C is a pleasant entry-level device for those looking for their first Android 4.0 smartphone, but its battery life makes enjoying its features to the max a little difficult. Ration internet and app usage, and the HTC Desire C does a good job of it. Just don't expect high-end smartphone performance.

This phone is rubbish. It has no camera flash facility, and therefore no torch facility. even in the slightest lack of light it does not take a good picture. It has no Compass facility limiting loads of apps from being used It is really slow. I was really pleased with my last HTC phone a "Wildfire" and because I am on an 18 month contract with Vodaphone and cannot upgrade until next year, I have gone back to using my old phone. What a waste Nothing desirable about this one

I've recently received my HTC Desire c but cannot sync it to my PC. The USB connection and Bluetooth don't work and I'm informed that I cannot download the Sync manager as it only applies to Windows 7. Any suggestions please as I can't download music or photos.

HTC Desire C. There is nothing to desire about this phone. This phone does not have a compass facility or a led mounted on it which really restricts the amount of apps that you can use. The camera is not good. I am stuck with an 18 month contract and I have gone back to using my old HTC wildefire. The beats audio is a good feature but that is about it Don't bother with this one there are far better phones out .

the phone was really good when I first got it. it did everything I wanted it to dp. however recently it's been playing up, going slow, shutting down randomly and when i took the battery out it carried on working. I'm really disappointed because this is not what i wanted to spend my money on. my blackberry was better than my HTC. I would not recommended it to anyone. I am getting an iPhone in the coming weeks

I have had this phone for about 10 months now or somewhere around that time and so far i have had no problems with the battery on games, internet or general usage. The phone itself can lag at times but only when on low battery. There is the odd feature that isnt there from the first desire and i would have found it better if the home screen and lock screen could have seperate images. it is a shame there is no flash but sometimes you cant have all you want. i love this phone just a shame there isnt any good cases for it.

This one is a real lemon. A $20 Nokia has more value. One cannot use it for tango, viber, etc; goes off on its own and load apps that you didn't even touch. Now I have a 6:00 am alarm!!! Go for another one.
