I agree with the above comments about who this console should be streered to. This console is perfect that the bloke who like his gadgets. Blu-ray films are glorious on a HD tv. I can stream HD movies of 25mbps effortlessly with a laptop pc. Its an excellent gaming machine for those who occasionally play games. COD4 modern warefare is so good. Ps3 is a gadget. Xbox 360 is more of a toy! Sorry xbox hardcore enthusiasts!

The new ps3 slim is coming out soon. I'm more of a xbox 360 person myself but the ps3 slims release price is 249 thats not much more expensive than a half decent blu ray plus ps3 exclusives to boot. One thing that puts me off tho is my sisters ps3's laser recently broke and its quite a common problem apparently. And unlike xbox's red ring of death its not free to repair after the 1 year while xbox has 3. BOOO! :P

I think that you should redo this reveiw. PS3 does not lack in games, the PS3 has never lack when it comes to games. I think that PS3 games are better at single player games, which the 360 lacks, i have not really seen a game that base around a story like Metal Gear Soild 4. The reason why the 360 has more game is cause it been out longer, which is what you expect. You have also forgoten to mention the online fee, PS3 online is free which is a good point and also the store does not use a point sytem which means that you know how much you spent. Your forgot to talk about the PS3 reliabillty which is far better then the 360. 360 has better online but that does not means it has better games or is more suited to hardcore gamers, hardcore gamers can still have the games they like on the PS3, they can have the online experance of Warhawk. The PS3 has bad points but the bad points are not it games. The PS3 is bad point is the Party system, which means that it harder to chat with your friends. Plus the cost of the console, even though PS3 games cost more even with mutiplatform games this is balance out by the fact that the Blu-ray disc are harder to scratch, it is a bad point but the Advantages of the Blu-ray discs out weigh the dis-advantages. I do believe that the media is more bias toward the 360, and those programs or shows that dont know much about the gaming world is more bias toward the Wii. Which gives the PS3 an unfair dis-advantage.

Two parts are very misleading, the rest is fine. Firstly based on game ratings of the exclusive games listed in xbox and ps3's top magazines shows that ps3 has more exclusive games with a rating of 85% plus. Secondly its true that PS3 costs more initially but is more inclusive so their is less other expensives. For example you don't have to buy an expensive xbox exclusive harddrive you can put cheaper ones of almost any brand. Plus you don't need to buy a controller charging unit and the network is free e.t.c.

I love the PS3, you can hear it coming, that big BUT !! I have had a few problems due to it breaking. Firstly the Blu Ray stopped reading disks which by reading the forums seem a common problem and secondly I got the red flashing light of death now I cant use it. from what I can see the problems seem to be mainly on the earlier models (mine is a 60 GB bought on the day of release) On the plus side the PS3 is a great media centre, since my drive failed that's what it was used for and it did a fantastic job.

Without wishing to start a "Mine is better than yours" battle, which usually ensues such comments, i would like to say that I am fortunate enough to own all of the curent gen consoles and in my humble opinion the PS3 doesnt cut it at the moment. The reasons for my comments are numerous. Firstly, we are still in a position whereby there are really no killer apps exclusive to the machine. Agreed there are some, but nothing that lifts it head and shoulders above the competition. Games are generally more expensive although this is levelling out lately, but games do tend to be about £5.00 dearer on this format? The Blu-ray element of the machine is not THAT good when compared to stand alone players. The loading times are poor and the user interface, whilst slick in appearance, is not very user friendly. Plus I still think it looks like a george forman gril LOL (slimline machine exempt). Despite my fairly negative comments, it is a quality piece of kit that has yet to be realised and pushed to its full potential. Alas, we might no see that before the next generation begins, which would be a shame. Unfortunately, late to the party, lagging behind the competition.

Now to be honest i own both consoles and i much prefer to play my xbox 360 for online use because it is far better than the ps3 however the few good games that the ps3 does offer are great for offline play wich the xbox does not suppot that well all in all they are both great consoles at what they do best But if the ps3 had an update where you could party chat to friends like the xbox i would rather play cod on the ps3 :]

To be honest, i think the new PS3 slim is far superior the xbox360 "elite" and if you pay close attention to eny game lobby, you will recognise that the xbox has alot of 8-16 year olds playing and the PS3 has mostly 16 and up playing it, so if you want to be a man (or woman lol) buy a PS3

This review is very misleading, PS3 now has almost 40 more exclusives avilable than x-box 360 and only for a small amount more. For and x-box elite and just a wireless dongle it would cost more than an all inclusive PS3.

I personally believe that the PS3 is a much better console than the Xbox, firstly, our online is free and with having my friends elite sat next to my PS3 his online connection lagged just as much if not more than my PS3 Also missed in the review was that the PS3 has bluetooth so you can use an in-car mic instead of the wired mic that you need on an xbox. We also have built in WiFi so no adaptors. Games though, all I play is COD so I am happy and PS3 is getting Gran Turismo 5 soon. Should match Forza 3.

I personally cant stand this xbox/ps3 war! both are very capable machines and both have their flaws, i have an xbox 360, and wot i love the most abt the machine is the perfect controller, it feels great and as i have big hands the ps3 controller is just to small for me. not saying that the ps3 controller is rubbish, as most ps3 owners will prefer their controller and think xbox controller is too big. I have had the 3 rings of death on 360, it was over 3 years old, and microsoft sent me a recon unit free of charge within 5 days of it going wrong, then i traded it for an Elite within a week! But a friend of mine had a ps3, after 1 year it stopped loading games and would only play blu-ray discs, Sony wanted £160 for a replacement on goodwill basis, now I think that was poor aftersales back-up/and warranty so maybe Sony need to sort the warranty issues out. However both are very capable machines.

Now i own both the PS3 and the Xbox 360 and i don't care if you disagree but i prefer the PS3 and i'll tell you why. The graphics of some of the games on the PS3 are unrivalled compared to the xbox 360 a good example of this is bioshock which has to be one of my favourite games and one i have on both platforms the amount of detail onthe PS3 is so much mroe in depth and the explosions and physics are much nicer. However xbox has 1 Exclusive game which ios the only time i ever playn it which is the halo franchise which is the only reaosn i brought an xbox since i have played it since first Halo.A downfall of the ps3 though is most of them are not backwards compatible i luckily got one when they were backwards compatible the 20GB versions and just stuck a 120GB HD in there anyway. Another thing making ps3 superior is blu ray so it's future proof and you can enjoy better picture sound and picture qaulity on dvds. However Xbox marketplace surely does destroy the ps3 live marketplace downloads are slower and then once downloaded you have to install them aswell on xbox you just download them in the same time but then again quality reflects on the download times. But the one thing that makes the PS3 my ultimate gadget is the internet browser which is truely superb especially with the zoom function which enables you to zoom into small videos without losing a single pixel of qaulity and the ability to browse the net on absolutely everything and it's even fast and reliable the only problem is i am nto sure how to close a tab but that's probably just my lack of knowledge so all in all xbox 360 is good but ps3 has to be better.Sorry for ranting on but i hope this helps people choose a console.

To be honest hardcore gamers would be better suited to upgrading their PC and getting a PS3 rather than a 360. The 360 realistically has NO exclusive titles - all their games come out on PC the PS3s games don't they ARE exclusive. PS3 also has FREE online gaming (saving you a minimum of the price of 1 game per year - and it's exactly the same experiance) Not only that, nearly everything on the 360 is an optional extra (i.e. wifi). The HDD is very restrictive, you can only use an official 360 one which isn't cheap compared to ones that you can get for PS3. For a similar price to what the XBox 120GB HDD costs you can get a 500GB one that fits the PS3. Plus the 512mb memory card for the 360 costs roughly the same as a 16GB flash drive that will do the same job on the PS3. So you tell me is the 360 really cheper than the PS3? If you look at the sales of both consoles as if they were launched on the same day, it takes the 360 an extra 40+ weeks to have sold the same number of consoles as the PS3 So which console is really more popular? One last thing i've just found out is nearly all Sony (visual - e.g. TVs, etc) products are now being rolled out with the XMB (cross media bar) that the PS3 uses, meaning plenty of non-gamers will become acustomed to the ease of use of the PS3 wihtout actually using one - therefore making the PS3 easier to use.

No contest upgrade to 500GB with standard 2.5" hard-drives for next to nothing for extra storage as well as stream media from your home network not to mention the games with FREE YES FREE online gaming pay less for the xbox but pay for the online gaming no thank you.... I have the original 60GB upgraded to 500gb yes i paid a fortune for this initially but i would not change for the world! As a blu-ray device with HDMI as standard its perfect partner for HD home cinema. With HDMI splitters and use of blu-tooth remotes can be set up for use on TV's anywhere in the house. With the PSP i can access this from anywhere in the world via the wifi as well as use it as a remote... This review needs to be updated giving a full view of the PS3's potential as a complete solution.

about the PS3 not playing PS2 games, if you have a lot of playstation 2 games then you already have a playstation 2. and as the PS2 uses a scart and the PS3 a HDMI lead then theres no reason you cant have them both connected. About the person who said his sisters laser broke on the PS3. It has a 2 year warranty not 1 year. Since 1st Jan 2002 since we became a member of the EU all new consumer goods carry a 2 year warranty and used consumer goods carry a 12 month warranty. The Directice is 1999/44/EC if you want to google it. Very few people know this and very few shops do as well. By law they have to give you a 2 year warranty.

i also have both consoles, well all three. wii, ps3 and xbox. i am loving my ps3. got it the month it came out, died two years later, bought another two days later and fixed the first ps3 a week later, still running in my bros room. the xbox has been played but it is only a party playing console because the connection is pretty good so all friends can get in. i iked it for that. but paying to get online started to annoy me. so its been sitting behind my tv for ages now coz its good for nothing else, only online. when i cant get online with ps3, i muck about with some settings for a bit till my sky broadband comes back around. but i normally play on all the demos i downloaded onto my 80 gig hardrive. like some super sonic acrobatic rocket power battle cars. :P lol.back to the xbox, when u bye, get a wireless thing and xbox live and all other stuff, it starts to work out as much as a ps3. the sixaxis is amazing aswell like in resistance 2 and killzone2. move the pad to plant bombs or slam a Chimeara in the face, lol. the ps3 alows you to have TWO outputs for the sound, so i have surround sound and my tv, if i need it quiet or playing some games that need some tunes in the backround, like Little big planet, :P. im trying not to be biased but i cant think of much better things for xbox besides good online. the ps3 graphics are also crazy good like in res5. me and my brother compared the xbox and ps3 on cod4. straight away we saw more crisp colours on the ps3. so there. i think i got what i wanted to say. oh wait plug in pads to recharge so there is no batterys rolling around. pshome is also a great place to chat with friends and muck about, lol. thats it. byyyyeeee

im a ps3 man i have 1 of the first 60GB ps3's never had a problem online never lags even in 64 and 256 player battles as some one else has stated the ps3 is more expensive because it comes with everything so no need to have to go and buy a wireless card or HDD drive or a hd drive[think 360 only upscales and not true hi-def]. or when 360 first came out they didnt have a warrenty. ps3 runs on the www just great u can stream from your pc from media player or from torrent programs. free online games imo 360 controller is rubbish. theirs loads of great games out for ps3 as well as home and the great stuff on their! also u can play games from anywhere in the world on your ps3 no need to chip your console and have it banned like the people with 360s lol also with the blu-ray drive no need for 3 or 4 discks like the 360 u just need 1!!!!!. ps3 has free freeview tv once u buy the inital package free music store mine has the memory card slots in the front and is all ways useful and u can bang an external drive in to the front usb ports as well as upgrading the internal hdd! so there is only 1 ......the PS3

The only trouble I have ever had with the PS3 is the system updates taking far to long as well as downloading content from the play station store. Other than them 2 problems I have had nothing else go wrong with it and it is very hard to get the yellow light of death where as on the 360 you get it after a year of purchasing it. And that is why the Sony Play Station 3 is the ultimate console for me.

*CONTROLLERS* You have to remember that this is an actual piece of kit from a well established brand, where as Microsoft has to approach lots of third parties to build up its hardware side of things. In my opinion (owning both the PS3 & 360) its obvious that the Ps3 is the better console, but it has a very obscure letdown, and that is its controller which in many ways should be superior to the oppositions, The PS3's has support for bluetooth, which in itself is insanley cool as nobody really uses them for anything their suppost to, so its good to see them put to good use. It has an accelerometer (sixaxis) which really works, in a bizarre way, and micro USB support for charging and attachments, but its just terrible, it will slip out of your hand weather you like it or not, and the sixaxis is just awkward and not necessary. The 360's is the obvious winner, all the buttons are within reaching distance and almost in the perfect position for playing games, the other big advantage is the accessories that the xbox has, such as battery chargers and plug and play kits and the quint essential QWERTY adapter, which doesn't necessarily put the PS3's to shame, but its very impressive and makes writing text messages a joy. Rant ended.

With titles like Uncharted 2 aswell as Killzone 3 and Gran Turismo 5 which are soon to be on the market this review is well out dated. The Playstation 3 has overtaken the Xbox 360 in almost every respect, first to motion gaming, first to 3D and with a wealth of award winning games exclusively on the ps3 it is now arguably the "Die-Hard gamers" console.

I own two PS3's One in the living room and one in the bedroom. Seemed stupid buying a seperate Bluray player when the PS3's price is so evenly matched to a good Bluray player. Plus all the extras, Vidzone, Playstation Home, The photograph software, Media streaming, Remote play on the PSP, the list go's on. Some may say "jack of all trades, master of none" well you'd be wrong. It masters everything beautifully. A truly outstanding "GADGET"

i have both machines and played my xbox more and used my PS3 for music and films,BUT it has too be said the PS3 is far superior.Most of the major releases for both consoles eg COD 4 always come out first on xbox BUT if your patient and are a hardcore gamer you should wait cause the PS3 versions are the full games,something xbox fails to do and lets face it the future of gaming is 3D!!!! And only the PS3 can give you that,as anyone whose seen Killzone 3 will know what i'm talking about.

i don,t own any of them xbox 360 or a ps3, but i think they both have their own good points, the ps3 for the games & the blue ray, saves you buying a seperate one, and the xbox has loads of games to choose from, a lot more than ps3. must get kinect with it now though, awesome. will be getting BOTH, ps3 & xbox for xmas i hope :)

PS3 is by far better than the xbox-360 as the xbox does over heat as i have had both an xbox and ps3. Plus internet is for free on PS3 as on xbox it is more costly. It is worth spending an extra £100 and not paying anything than spending money for online. The PS3 system is a much more easier system.

everyone shut up , you are all fanboys(nearly) the xbox360 is really not that bad, but it takes ages turning on, and crashes more often.RED RING OF DEATH OCCURED 15 TIMES IN 5 weeks! The ps3 overall is a better by far console, technically. everyone shut up about hardcore!if you are hardcore you would be on a laptop or a computer that was built for gaming.TBH i have all 3 and i like the ps3 better bcos im not that hardcore for a ltop gaming and not weak 4 xbox

The PS3 is a class act. Its a Media Machine, Games Machine, Social Networking Machine (Playstation Home is awesome), Home Cinema Machine (Blu-Ray upto 7.1 Dolby & DTS), Access to Latest Music Videos FREE, TV on Demand, Playstation Network FREE. The list goes on. In terms of the Broadband Cell Chip its so unique they say there is loads of areas they just don't know about in terms of programming. So the PS3 has a hidden secret waiting to be discovered. Though I do think Sony need to put the PS2 emulator on the new PS3s as I got loads of PS2 games and my old ps2, well she is getting old she needs to retire and just sit there on the shelf looking proud to be an icon! next to the PSOne. I've had an Xbox360 and the only decent game is gears of war, Many of the games seem to glitch even on later models. I hate the fact you have to pay to get any sense from Xbox live. What do you get for your 6 quid a month? i know the ability to play against with other network players hum ? Though Xbox360 is still a cool bit of kit something is missing, PS3 is more grown up and ahead of the game. Literary

I did have one of the first PS3 think it was the 60 or 80BG and had to trade it in, but got myself a 120GB slim. When I had my previous PS3, I didn't have a problem with it, unlike my partner's xbox 360 (red ring of death) I have lost count how many he has gone through. I would say the PS3 is more reliable than the xbox but that's my opinion. There are not as many online players and also the security lags as some games have been hacked and ruins the whole experience, but generally it is a good console.

i own both consoles they are both very good at wot they do online xbox is better but you do have to pay for that servise ps3 is free but you can subscribe to playstations offer of online servises which im not prepared to pay till playstation has some sort of party chat also i get more probs from my ps3 wen online gamin than the xbox i bought fifa 11 on ps3 an 8 out of 10 times playin a ranked match a connection problem comes up an cant complete game i also think EA games is takin the wee out off the consumer that if you dont buy a new game u have to pay to go online which is about 6 or 7 quid but you dont see that difference on the shelf but all in all if i could only have one i would struggle but would probly go for the xbox

I've had both, there is virtually no difference between the two but the PS3 edges on polish. Graphically they are pretty much identical, ditto sound, HD-DVD vs Blu Ray, how many HD-DVD's you seen for sale lately. Costs, Microsoft are money mad putting it mildly, network adapter built in on the PS3 costs extra on all but the top Xbox's; controller PS3 rechargeable, XBox battery unless you use your own rechargeables or buy the Microsoft adapter; PSNetwork free, XBox Live monthly subscription; HDD's PS3 standard Netbook HDD so for example £45 for a 500GB, XBox Microsoft only built anything from £40 for a 40GB upwards; I could go on but you get the point, the PS3 might be slightly more expensive in the outset but long term you will save big time with the PS3 with out having to pay for the online experience and all the extras being cheaper. Games well close to identical but if you take the same game on both systems e.g. GTA4 or Red Dead Redemption gameplay is identical but normally there are 1 or two extra little bits on the PS3 that JUST give it the edge. Overall, the PS3 edges it for me.
