HP TouchSmart 520-1130ea

G-Rating

Rating of 4

The basics

The HP Touchsmart 520-1130ea is a Windows 7 Home Premium desktop PC with an Intel Core i3 processor and 4GB of RAM and a 1 terabyte hard drive for storing files such as movies, music and documents. Other features and accessories include a wireless keyboard and mouse, slim tray and SuperMulti DVD Drive.

The good

The pleasing display is one of the first things to sit up and take notice of. Its 23-inch full HD display looks great whatever the task. If you’re watching movies on it, you’ll find that’s when the HP Touchsmart 520-1130ea really shines. Colours are bright and sharp. The DVB-T tuner also lets you view Freeview TV channels to get even more from the HP Touchsmart 520-1130ea’s entertainment chops. Speakers powered by Beats Audio deliver better volume and bass than you’d conventionally get from tinny built-in desktop speaker set-ups. This is clearly a desktop PC designed for entertaining. And then you’ve got masses of storage space, thanks to a colossal 1 terabyte of hard disk space. You won’t ever need to think of investing in an external hard drive. Not when you’ve got this much room to play with. Users can download to their hearts content. Four USB ports also also give you plenty of room for plugging in all sorts of accessories from memory sticks to games controllers with room to spare.

The bad

Those looking for a powerful desktop PC would be advised to look elsewhere. While the HP Touchsmart 520-1130ea can handle all the basic tasks with ease, it still isn’t powerful enough to run the latest power-hungry games as well as others, and take on as much without a stutter or two.

The bottom line

If you’re looking for a PC fit for work and the family, the HP Touchsmart 520-1130ea is ideal, but fans of high-end gaming, and processor intensive tasks should opt for something a little more powerful.
