Bose V35

G-Rating

Rating of 4

The basics

The Bose V35 is a 5.1 home cinema speaker system to which you can hook up up to six HD sources such as Blu-ray players, Sky HD boxes and games consoles. It includes an iPod dock, FM radio and easy calibration courtesy of Bose’s ADAPTiQ tech.

The good

Bose has strived to make the V35 idiot-proof and it’s paid off: thanks to the on-screen step-by-step setup it’s pretty much impossible to connect things up the wrong way. The calibration system automatically adjusts the speakers for their placement and the size of your room – so you don’t need to be a golden-eared audiophile to have the various sound levels tweaked to perfection. The five speakers are tiny, but shift a surprising amount of sound: teamed up with the Acoustimass subwoofer module they deliver audio that really enhances a movie or gaming experience.

The bad

The audio isn’t perfect, however, and probably won’t please music fans as much as it does movie watchers – the speakers can’t quite produce the level of detail and response to excel with music. Then there’s the price tag, which is frankly frighteningly large for an all-in-one package.

The bottom line

The Bose V35 impresses, especially if you own a bunch of HD sources and want to run them all through a compact, attractive system. But given the price you’d expect it to be – one for well-heeled movie fans only.

Is this the correct system? Looking for a system with rf capabilities to power surround sound for movies and concurrent music in other rooms?
