Slim Devices Squeezebox Duet

Rating of 4

The basics

Squeezebox Duet consists of a multi-room Squeezebox Controller & charging stand, and a Squeezebox Receiver. The multi-room controller with 2.4-inch color display makes it easy to browse playlists, albums, artists, and more. Even search by name. Convenient scrollwheel, simple menus, and intuitive buttons make navigation a breeze.

The good

Like Sunny and Cher, Maverick and Goose, erm, Peter Andre and Katie Price, all good things come in twos. Step forward the Squeezebox Duet, a handy media streamer with two parts: the main Squeezebox unit and the rechargeable remote control. Once the Wi-Fi-toting Squeezebox is hooked up to your network (which was pretty easy) you barely need to touch it again, as the remote takes care of everything with its eye-catching 2.4-inch colour screen and iPod-style scroll wheel. We were browsing our music library, tweaking the volume and fiddling with settings to our heart's content. Internet radio was also a boon, and overall audio performance was excellent.

The bad

Of course, you'll need to have a computer with a music library first. And you'll have to sign up to the SqueezeNetwork and download the SqueezeCenter software - but that takes about ten minutes, so it's a lot less painful than an episode of Katie and Peter.

The bottom line

User-friendly and sonically tasty, The Logictech Squeezebox Duet is the digital muso junkie's fix. It's not without its flaws, but these pale to insignificance behind its plus points.
