The basics

The Samsung UE40D6530 is part of Samsung’s Series 6 Smart 3D range. The 40-inch LED TV is capable of displaying images in full 3D and in full high definition (1080p). Smart TV functionality lets users access web applications such as YouTube and film streaming services such as Netflix for viewing on-demand film and television shows and episodes. The Samsung UE40D6530 also features Ethernet, four HDMI ports, SCART and component inputs and a headphone port.

The good

On or off, the Samsung UE40D6530 is a true beauty that measures less than 3cm thick in profile. Its thin metal build really looks the part. On looks alone the Samsung UE40D6530 is enough to light up any home cinema set-up. Its lightweight design and slim looks would make it look particularly striking hung up on a wall. As for its 3D skills the Samsung really impresses with some very strong 3D effects that really bring what you’re watching life in a way that is utterly believable without the feeling of being jarring on the eyes. 2D viewing is similarly impressive, producing some striking, sharp pictures.

The bad

As good as the picture quality can be, there are times when images don’t have quite the correct contrast. On occasion there isn’t quite the level of clarity found in some of the Samsung UE40D6530’s competitors. That said, it doesn’t spoil what is still a very good 3D TV.

The bottom line

The Samsung UE40D6530 is a beautiful fully featured 3D TV with Smart TV online functionality. It produces strong 3D images, but its clarity isn’t quite as strong as some of its competitors.
