Samsung BD-C6900 Blu-ray player

G-Rating

Rating of 5

The basics

The Samsung BD-C6900 is a 3D Blu-ray player capable of outputting 1080p video from Blu-ray discs, as well as upscaling DVDs to HD quality. There’s Wi-Fi for a host of web-related features including BD-Live, multimedia sharing and Internet@TV (which includes Twitter, BBC iPlayer, LOVEFiLM and more).

The good

The BD-C6900 is a mightily impressive piece of kit for its price tag. It loads up discs rapidly, delivers a beautifully clean, vibrant image from both 2D and 3D Blu-ray discs and features 7.1 analogue surround sound output, allowing watchers of 3D films to also experience lossless surround sound rather than having to downgrade to Dolby Digital or DTS. There’s also a formidable array of multimedia features on offer, including the always useful ability to stream videos, photos and music over your home network, not to mention access all sorts of web goodies – and it’s all wireless.

The bad

The player can exhibit the odd bit of crosstalk during 3D playback, causing objects to ghost – but this is more an issue with the 3D TV it’s hooked up to, and we can’t really count it as a weakness for the BD-C6900.

The bottom line

A great 3D and 2D Blu-ray player and a master of media to boot. And it’s all packed into a slimline case.

Did anyone on the team test the iplayer? I've got it now but am starting to wish I hadn't.
