GEAR4 StreetParty Size 0

G-Rating

Rating of 3

The basics

GEAR4 StreetParty Size 0 are super skinny speakers for iPods. It has a slim form (16 mm) that supports AA batteries, and has a line-in option. The speakers also have 2x tweeters as well as 2x low resonance drivers. It weighs only 300 g and has a carry case and remote control included in the package.

The good

Why follow dull, boxy trends in speaker design, when you can build one that's only 16mm thick? That's what the clever guys at Gear4 have done here, giving the Size 0 a folding mechanism to leave it thinner than three pound coins placed on top of each other. There's also an AA battery option so you can share your tunes with lucky unsuspecting passers-by when you're out and about.

The bad

If Victoria Beckham has taught us anything, it's that something this thin was never going to be able to throw out a big, powerful sound. It just can't compare to a decent desktop iPod dock. There's also very little in the way of bass – leaving some pounding tunes sounding as thumping as a gnat's fart. Still the mids and highs aren't too tinny.

The bottom line

While the StreetParty Size 0 doesn't produce the sweetest of sounds, but it does look desirable and is one of the better affordable cum portable docks on the market.
