The basics

The new iPod nano 6G is the biggest overhaul in the new stable of iPods just announced. The clickwheel has gone to be replaced with a square touchscreen and the whole unit has shrunk significantly.

The good

When it comes to build, the new iPod nano looks like a cross between an iPod shuffle and an iPhone. The new 1.54-inch multitouch screen looks lovely, and the controls are intuitive, responding to swipes and long presses for moving through the menus just fine and is a proficient replacement for the old combo of screen and over sensitive trackwheel. There’s also a standard 30-pin connector on the bottom, so the new iPod nano 6G will still play nice with all your iPod docks and accessories. There’s also the added bonus of Genius, as well as support for podcasts, and the FM radio with song tagging introduced last year. You’ll also find a basic pedometer onboard, but the video options of previous iterations is now gone.

The bad

You’re basically paying at least £90 more for a bit more capacity than the new iPod shuffle, an FM radio, and the option to pick specific albums rather than playlists. That doesn’t scream value to us, especially when the swanky new iPod touch can be had for just a little more.

The bottom line

A smaller, streamlined version of the famous line that you wouldn’t kick out of your Christmas stocking. Great for gym bunnies looking for a tiny, clip-on solution.

I absolutely love mine, I know they are pricey and don't have a camera but at the end of the day 99.9% of people own a phone which has a camera. So if you are a music lover like i am it is a great buy with it pedometer, albums, photos etc Well Worth It!

Ipod nano looks great and it's true- people do have phones with cameras on them so you can transfer the photos from your phone to your ipod nano

Just got one for Christmas and it was AWFUL - I didn't know about the new law limiting sound on music players - my iphone 4S plays the songs MUCH louder (it's exempt, being a phone) and makes this sound like a CHEAP RADIO - coupled with the sound limitations, the quality is poor. It is impossible to listen to anything but tinny pop music, as songs that have quiet parts seem to fade away. I couldn't use this to exercise - running along a road, playing at maximum volume, all I could hear was the traffic! None of these problems occurred when using the iphone. Simply the iphone is a MUCH better music player, and this one is an insult to music!

I got an I-Pod nano for Christmas and it was absolutely rubbish. The touch screen is pathetic, it's way too expensive for some measly apps and no games, and the volume is too low. The radio never works!
