Canon EOS 550D
The basics
Another to add to Canon's esteemed EOS SLR range. The 550D comes with an 18 megapixel CMOX sensor built to perform well in low light thanks to high ISO range of up to 6400. The EOS 550D also shoots full 1080p high definition video, or high speed 720P to cope better with fast moving subjects.

why no G rating?

Never mind about the G rating, this is an apocolyptaically great camera for beginners or experienced photographers. Superb censor and massive megapixel quality gives you print outs around 1.8 meters wide! Not so much of a speedy frames per second however but high ISO range makes up with a 12800 (H) extension. Very close to the 7D performance-wise. If you're new to DSLR photography - GO FOR THIS!

I previously had a 350D which I liked a lot, and didn't this the 550D would be much of a step up -wrong! It is so good it is a revelation. Cheap wireless remote controls mean you can use the camera for sport or wildlife shots, the included software, a laptop and a long USB cable let you see a live image on the laptop and adjust various settings. Put the camera on a tripod near a bird feeder for example, and shoot away.... great if you can't yet afford a really good telephoto lens. Live view does gobble battery life though! I'd recommend this to anyone who is a keen amateur on a budget, using the basic settings will get you good shots and it has ample scope for learning/being more creative.

I'd give this Camera a decent 4G. Although it takes great cameras, I think an better LCD screen would make a great difference so you can really see, in detail what you are looking at.

Oh dear - I am looking at underwater cameras [like SCUBA depth, not just a very few metres down!] - nothing! AND then full DLSR [for above water, no way I can afford underwater kit, or risk, for an u/w DLSR - but the reviews are very limited. Please, Gadget Show wizards, can you expand and do these - I do use [and look at the programme] as an aid in purchase, love the show, even if a bit lacking in detail at times ... and the recent round the world has been great! More please!

Have owned this camera since its launch. I would class myself as a average skilled, mid range hobby photographer. This camera is superb....easy to use, easy to select settings bothe preset and user defined.Very easy to play about with and really detailed, good colour rep pics. I have already covered the cost of camera selling pics online......:)
