YouView: Massive free update adds extra smart TV skills
Last week, we checked out the Humax DTR-1000, one of the very first set top boxes to come packing YouView, the new service that pulls together all the catch up services from the major broadcasters and weave them into the EPG. We gave it a glowing five star review, but today, the little box that could just got even better with a big software update: read on to find out what’s new.
An update to YouView is being rolled out to Humax boxes now, and should hit yours in the new few weeks: so long as it’s connected to the internet it’ll be downloaded and installed automatically.
How to make any TV into a smart TV
The YouView update brings lots of goodies, including a faster start-up time when turning on (always a welcome thing), the ability to group recordings by series in MyView, the ability to jump 15 or 60 seconds forwards or backwards on live TV or recordings, and even surround sound output.
That’s quite a bumper update, and the fact that it should appear automatically makes it even more welcome – as we said in our review, this is truly smart TV because it’s so simple. Expect the update to hit YouView boxes sold through TalkTalk to get the update in the next few weeks too.
