Virgin TV Anywhere: Live telly coming to iPhone and Android!

Virgin TV Anywhere, a brand new service from Branson’s boobtube division, has just been revealed this morning. Aimed squarely at Sky’s new Now TV venture, it’s an online service that lets you stream on demand and live channels from anywhere, even if you’re not a Virgin Media TiVo customer. Oh, and it’s coming to iPhone and Android too!

When it launches later this Autumn, Virgin TV Anywhere will at first be an online website that lets you stream around 30 live channels and Virgin Media’s on-demand content on any computer.

Virgin TV Anywhere will also be launching as an app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, which doubles up as a handy remote for Virgin’s TiVo set top box. That’ll be followed by a similar app for Android phones early next year, and apps for Windows Phone and BlackBerry smartphones are in the pipeline too.

You’ll need to be a Virgin Media customer to use the service (and if you’re a TiVo user, you can manage your shows and rate them through it as well): let us know what you make of Virgin’s ploy in the comments below.
