The best smartphone ever? Siri says it's the Nokia Lumia 900

Nokia has spent a lot of time and money promoting its new Lumia 900 Windows Phone flagship, but sometimes all you need to get ahead in life is a word of support from the right person. Well, Apple’s voice assistant Siri has just obliged, naming the Lumia 900 as the best smartphone on the planet.

Ask the iOS assistant what the “best smartphone ever” is, and she’ll cheerfully point you in the direction of Finland and the Lumia 900 – the cyan Lumia 900, no less – rather than sticking to the party line and giving the obvious answer – the iPhone 4S. Incidentally, she also believes that Linux – and not iOS or OS X – is the best operating system around.

Gadget Digest: Nokia Lumia 900 out now!

So why is Apple’s own mouthpiece trash-talking the company that made her? Simply because her “opinions” are based on results from the statistical search engine Wolfram Alpha. And because of the Lumia 900’s high profile right now – especially with it being sold dirt cheap in the US on subsidised contracts – Nokia’s new smartphone superhero rises to the top.

It’s just another quirk to add to what is becoming a fairly long list of idiosyncrasies, and while Apple has thus far dismissed criticism by arguing that its voice assistant is very much still a work in progress and ultimately is still better than anything else out there, but all the same it’s a surprisingly clumsy first attempt for a company known for its meticulously high standards.

To be the smartest of all smart phones you'll need to get "Watson" in a phone.

I've just asked siri what the best smartphone on the planet is and the answer was the one you're holding, so it would seem that my iphone doesn't think that much of the Nokia Lumia.
