The 18-Carat gold Nike+ SportWatch: Olympians only need apply

A new Nike+ SportWatch GPS fitness timepiece has been revealed this week, but unlike the last batch of new colours, this one is seriously limited edition. Not only is it made from 18-Carat gold, but it’s not even going on sale anywhere. The only way you can get one? Be an Olympic athlete.

Although this Nike+ SportWatch, powered by TomTom, keeps track of your position and speed just like any other, few do it with quite the same amount of flair. The white body is trimmed with real gold, and the Nike swoosh logo is pressed into the design.

The whole thing comes in a box bearing 400m world record holder Michael Johnson’s quote: “They don’t give you gold medals for beating somebody. They give you gold medals for beating everybody.”

Looks good? Sadly, unless you’re already a Nike sponsored Olympic track and field athlete – and a good one at that – you may be out of luck. Nike has revealed to us that only under 100 have been made, and none will ever go on sale. Only athletes like women’s 200m winner Allyson Felix will have the privilege of a gold Nike+ SportWatch gracing their wrists.

But who knows – perhaps, like Olympic torches, they might just pop up on eBay anyway.
