Sonys puts price on its 3D glasses
Sony's 3D glasses – not cheap
Sony has just announced the price of its 3D glasses to accompany its new range of 3D devices – from TVs and Blu-ray players – and they aren’t cheap. The home entertainment giant has put the tag of $155 (around £100) on each pair of Active Shutter goggles.
The company announced the pricing on pairs in Japan, and it’s going to be a tough additional outlay to swallow, especially if you have a large family who don’t want to watch 3D treats in shifts.
Part of the reason for the pricing is the fact that Sony’s brand of 3D relies on a flickering lens on the glasses to create the 3D image, so the specs themselves need electronics and battery power to function.
Not only that, but you’ll also need an accompanying infra-red light emitter, costing $55 (£37). Both items are due this way in June, but the good news is that you get to choose from three colours of specs – blue, pink or black. Yay.

Sumsung be giving two pairs of 3D glasses with there new range of 3D TV's and hopefully other tv manufacture will follow.

If I was paying thousands for a 3D TV, I would expect the necessary kit to use it! Not a Sony fan anyway, so will see if Panasonic follow suit. With the limited HD channels available after x years, I'll not be rushing to get 3D until there is more channels for that.

So now we have not only to ensure we can find the remote, but also now we are expected to wear these glass to watch TV. TV is something that you can just pick up or not, have in the background or watch intently. Wearing some other device to make this happen is a backward step. I like the rest of the world watched Avatar in the cinema in 3D, but found the experience annoying because of the glass, like most 3D viewing and this took me out of the experience, luckily it was only 2.30 hours. In 40 years this technology has still not overcome its fundamental floor. I am not sure this technology has been thought through as this will not fit comfortably into family life, unless we want to be drones. Then why not just wear the glasses who would need a TV, then we could all watch different programmes and make the whole experience totally isolating....... Great for kid's, but they do not buy these thing.

They probley cost 2p to make and charging £100 sony can get screwed if they were £10-£25 maybe but not £100 ill stick with normal blu-ray.

And with sky not going to charge their customers with full world hd package, the world cup should be amazing in 3D
