Sony PS3 YouTube app incoming - but not for Brits yet
Google has announced that a Sony PS3 YouTube app is finally here, letting you easily surf the video hub from your sofa. It’s also got some next-gen control tricks up its sleeves too, but there’s just one catch – us Brits may not be seeing it for a while.
It’s hard to believe it, but the Sony PS3 is now six years old. In that time it’s become much more than a games console, with Blu-ray, movie streaming and TV on demand services all touching down on the big black box. But while you’ve always been able to watch YouTube videos in the rather wobbly PS3 internet browser, it’s never been a fun experience.

That changes with Google’s announcement of a native Sony PS3 YouTube app. Load it up and you can check out YouTube in a slick, HD design that works perfectly with a gamepad or TV remote control, search videos easily with auto-suggestions as you type and view your subscribed channels with ease.
You can even use your smartphone as a remote control with the Sony PS3 YouTube app. If you’re connected on the same network, it’ll work with any mobile browser, or the YouTube Remote app for Android devices. Find a video on your phone and you can push it straight to your TV via the PS3 – it’s a lot like Microsoft’s SmartGlass for Xbox 360 and we can’t wait to see what Google and Sony do with the technology.
There’s just one problem – while the Sony PS3 YouTube app is available in North America to download from the PlayStation Store today, there’s no word yet on a UK launch. Google says it plans to bring it to “more countries in coming months”, but nothing more specific. Sony UK meanwhile did not get back to us when we asked for comment from them.
Are you looking forward to using the Sony PS3 YouTube app? Or is it just better late than never? Let’s hear your thoughts in the comments.

UK Sony PS3 customer service are the worst, im not surprised that america get it first PS3 over there is way better, its free to call them you can buy PS3 insurance on the store an they always get games way before us. I phoned Sony about all of this an they said the grass is always greener on the other side. So fingers crossed we get it by xmas cos it should be good as youtube dont work properly on the PS3 browser.

PS3 has had youtube on it for years, maybe not the one your talking about here but it's been there for ages making this report a little disappointing.

This app is a giant pile of elephant poo. It stutters as if you're watching a video behind an industrial fan - buffering to the hard drive 3 to 5 times a second. The majority of PS3 owners are experiencing this and it only serves to further push consumers away from purchasing anything from Sony in the future. I am one of those who will never buy from Sony again, and I will tell at least 500 people of all the problems this lame, apathetic and disenfranchising company has perpetrated on it's unsuspecting customer base.
