Samsung SUR40 Microsoft Surface table is now heading to homes

CES 2012 was a place to see both the gadgets we’ll soon be owning, and those gadgets that we wish we could. Among the tech on our optimistic wish-list is the Samsung SUR40 – a 40-inch multi-touch tabletop.

The futuristic table displays full 1080p high definition pictures and runs the latest Microsoft 2.0 touchscreen technology. But it doesn’t come cheap. New coffee table, anyone?

Sure, the Samsung SUR40 is hardly a necessity of the gadget world, but just look at its stylish design. The tech inside is even better. Hidden cameras underneath the table work to recognise every prod and poke.

PixelSense technology allows more than 50 simultaneous touch-points on the Samsung SUR40s surface. Those are some serious multitouch skills. Developers are even able to create apps for the SUR40, transforming it into the biggest tablet you’re ever likely to use.

With that in mind, the Samsung SUR 40 does come at a price, currently quoted at around $8000-$9000 if purchased with a matching stand. The Samsung SUR40 is anything but cheap, and is more likely to be snapped up by companies looking to add some spark to offices, waiting rooms of corporate spaces, and even restaurants, letting customers pay from their table, so we could be seeing a lot more of the Samsung SUR40, or future versions in places we may not expect.

Still, if you’ve got the money, the Samsung SUR40 can be yours when it begins shipping later this month. We can dream.
