Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 now available for pre-order
We love the regular Samsung Galaxy Tab, but sometimes the 7-inch screen simply isn’t big enough. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 is also a cracker, but again the 10.1-inch screen is too much of a compromise for some portable users, leaving the new 8.9-inch model in the sweet spot. The Galaxy 8.9 is now available for pre-order, at a smidge over £600. Read on to find out more.
The new Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 could be one of the best tablets yet – it strikes a perfect balance between size, usability and portability, and it looks fantastic.
It’s also packed with features, including 3G connectivity, so you’ll be able to browse the web even when you’re out of range of a Wi-Fi network. It’ll still suffer from the same problems as other Android tablets – mainly a lack of decent tablet apps, but this is something that’s improving all the time.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 has popped up for pre-order on Amazon, with a price tag of £605. Pricey, certainly, but it’s not a lot different from Apple’s iPad 2.
Have you got a smaller Samsung Galaxy Tab? Will you be tempted to upgrade? Leave a comment and let us know.

iPad2 is £399 Wi-Fi only and £499 Wi-Fi + 3G. How is the £605 for the Samsung "not a lot different from Apple’s iPad 2" !!!! More money for an inferior device - laughable ....

I agree entirely with Hugh - Samsung have priced themselves out of the competition as this puts the Tab in direct comparison with the top of the range Ipad 2. The lure of the Tab was its size and price. I own plenty of Apple products but I was attracted to the Tab as I wanted to use FLV and I thought it was a cheaper alternative - now I'm waiting for Ipad 3 due Autumn this year (hopefully)

hugh you seem to be a mindless follower on apples products. I agree the price may be quite high but the 10.1 is 400 quid with wifi + 3g, 32gb of memory, faster processor and better screen now tell me ipad is good value for money. Next time don't look at one difference and say it's the best look at everything and then you can argue

Rip off! Knock £200 off, and then it will be competitively priced! Not quite sure what planet samsung are on these days? I would definately choose a Galaxy Tab over a iPad, But not at this price as the iPad is also a decent (but not perfect) piece of kit.

Oh dear 't', you're trying to argue a point about facts when you can't get them right yourself...fail. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 has the same processing power as the iPad 2, it is also priced to be the same as the iPad 2- £400 for the wifi only 16GB version. Yes, the screen has a higher resolution and is slightly larger, but then Android's 3.0 Honeycomb OS isn't up to scratch just now. So....get your facts straight man!

A proper search on Google reveals that other outlets are offering to also pre-order. Prices range from £450-£839. However, Samsung UK have not yet finalised the launch date for this model-so be careful, if you are given a delivery date!

Forget about the screen size, it is the dimentions that are all wrong. A tablet must be widescreen. This is where the iPad goes wrong. The iPad is a victim of iOS' inflexabilty to adapt to other screen sizes, but android doesn't have this probem - so why a 4:3 screen?

As noted above, it amazes me that Apple don't get it! Who watches ANYTHING on a 4:3 screen these days? This is a good selling point for android tablets as the iPad is a BIG step backwards for watching movies on, even games are better suited to a 16:9 screen format. Apple design their products to their needs, not their customers!
