Samsung Galaxy Beam projector phone gets release date

The Nokia 808 PureView may have its 41-megapixel camera, but the Samsung Galaxy Beam here has a built-in projector to let its owners show off their video clips and photos with groups of (possibly jealous) friends. What’s more, it’ll be on sale in just a few months in the UK. If you want one it’s worth reading on.

The Samsung Galaxy Beam sounds like a surefire way to impress friends. Its bright 15 lumens projector presents an unusual way to share content using a smartphone. As for the rest of those specs, the Samsung Galaxy Beam is a little more modest.

It has a 4-inch 800×480-pixel WVGA display, and 8GB of internal memory that can be expanded up to 32GB using a microSD card. On the Samsung Galaxy Beam you’ll also find a 5-megapixel camera on the rear, and for video calls, a 1.3-megapixel shooter.

The Samsung Galaxy Beam is powered by a respectable 1GH dual-core processor, and will come running Googles Android 2.3 operating system. There’s no word yet on whether, or how soon the Samsung Galaxy Beam will be updated to the latest Android 4.0 interface, but that is surely just a matter of time.

If the idea of a projector-equipped phone appeals, the Samsung Galaxy Beam should be landing on UK shores in July for a reported price of around £300 before tax.
