Roku media streamer to out play Apple TV in UK?

Roku look set to launch a range of media streamers here in the UK early in 2012 and putting the squeeze on the already basic offerings of Apple TV, which frankly suffers from choice on this side of the pond. Read on to find out how Roku can offer you up to 350 channels for less than you think!

Roku has announced that it is set to launch a bunch of media streamers here in the UK and as far afield as Canada in a bid to offer us Brits the same kind of channel hoping madness it seems only the US can get right now from rival Apple TV.

The big twist with Roku is that the boxes look as though they’re going to be cheap, with prices starting at less than £40 (inc. VAT). At this price you’d be expecting little or no fun but it seem you’ll be able to stream more than 350 channels, which even includes the American heavy-hitters, such as HBO, Hulu and Netflix.

If that’s not enough, then it’s expected that the high-end Roku 2 boxes will also be able to offer you the chance to play games, such as Angry Birds and Pac-Man, as well as let you watch movies from local drives.

Roku hasn’t announced the line-up of devices it will be offering in 2012 yet but for those who love channel hoping, it looks like the good times are coming, and for less than we thought!
