Nintendo Network and personal accounts for Wii U detailed
Following confirmation that the Nintendo Wii U will arrive in time for Christmas, Nintendo has also confirmed that there will be a Nintendo Network that could finally deliver the kind of online functionality that the Nintendo Wii was lacking in comparison to its PS3 and Xbox 360 rivals.
Nintendo President Satoru Iwata confirmed that the Nintendo Network will be a place for competitions, communicating and sales of digital content, including full-feature retail games, too.

Nintendo will also introduce individual Nintendo Network accounts, so that all players have their own personal Wii U profile. The Nintendo Network will also cover the Nintendo 3DS, with hints of full integration with the handheld.
Iwata also spoke of community, pointing to the current Mario Kart 7 communities as an example of what gamers can look forward to going forward with the Nintendo Wii U, also hinting at similar user interfaces and experiences on the home console. Nintendo has also said that the Wii U has advanced a lot since its E3 2011 appearance, as we look forward to the console once again being shown off ahead of its end of year release.
Looking ahead, Nintendo also confirmed that a new 2D side-scrolling Super Mario game will launch on the Nintendo 3DS, following the brilliant Super Mario 3D Land. It’s an exciting time to be a Nintendo fan.
