Sony PS4 UK price and release date revealed?

Sony PS4 UK price and release date revealed?

Get ready for next-gen, as it’s coming later this year: the Sony PlayStation 4 is set to drop in October and according to a new report, it looks like you can snap one up for £300. How’s that sound for a slice of gaming goodness?

The Sun reports Sony will be launching its brand new console in October, which matches up with what Sony said when the console was announced last month – that it would be released before the end of the year. The launch price, however, looks to be a lot less than what Sony was asking for the PlayStation 3 when it first launched back in 2007 for an eye watering £425. That’s a big drop, but it makes sense in a world where £99 Android consoles and the free to play business model booming on mobile app stores are threatening both Sony and Microsoft’s bottom lines.

See all the new PS4 games trailers here!

Although this is all speculation from The Sun at this point all hints are proving it to be reliable info, and we’d be surprised if we heard anything different later down the line. Sadly we still don’t know what the console will look like, as Sony is keeping mum on the design and some of the specifics, but we do know it’ll come with a revamped DualShock 4 with a new touch pad, stream down PlayStation games and let you brag to all your friends with a new Share function.

Will you be keeping October free in your calendar so you can get your hands on a PlayStation 4 or are you firmly holding out for the next-gen Xbox? Let us know what you think in the comments below.

Hi Gadget show I'm an ex-pat now living in Japan. I really loved your show back in the UK and I would like to continue to keep up-to-date with the latest kit but it seems some videos are not available to view in Japan. Could I ask why we are unable to view such vids??

Even £300 is a bit steep for me. I can barely afford one of the new 12GB PS3's let alone. Fingers crossed they wise up and allow backwards compatibility, not just on the cloud but also with the discs. Then I might fork over the cash for a PS4.

£300 is a very good price and I think Microsoft's silence is more damning against them, they should be acting to outdo the hype building round the PS4. I dont quite understand why everyone goes on about backwards compatability. I dont think I have ever wanted to play a PS2 game on my PS3, or the same with an xbox, generally when people are done with a game they trade it in. A game would have to have serious replayability to make we want to go back other than a nostalgia factor, but games these days dont tend to have that.

Iv never been a PS console owner, although i have played on them and admired their work from afar, with a price tag of "maybe" £300 that may change. We know its going to be a class console, and at that price you really can't go wrong, considering these mobiles are coming in at £4-600 these days it really isn't much of an asking price. Now to see what it will include and indeed what MS XBox has to offer. Can't wait!

Console gaming has been FAR too expensive for too long, It's just not acceptable to charger £30-£40 for a game anymore. While i'm sure the PS4 will be a superb console, I'd rather invest my money into buying a Android console like an OUYA, it seems the ways forward. If android developers can push out quite impressive games at such small prices FREE - £5, then where is there any value in paying around 10 times more just because the graphics are a bit fancier. No thanks. The games industry need a BIG shake up, though i doubt that will happen too soon.

The article only credits "experts" with the guessing of the price. Until Sony announce a price themselves I wouldn't trust this.

I hope it is backwards compatible as GTA5 is out in September and hasn't been announced for PS4 so it seems useless playing it for a month then swapping consoles just to play a game

Seriously? We're trusting The Sun? We're getting our gaming news from the Sun now? Good one!

I agree with one of the comments, I stopped reading when you said "The Sun". The Sun is a load of rubbish, they lie throughout the stories. I would recommend ALL gamers to wait for the E3 2013 games and see what Sony and Microsoft will reveal. Myself, I am a Xbox fan. Always have been. I have both consoles and both have advantages and disadvantages. If Microsoft mess up the new console and HUGE price tag, I'll be converting to the PS4

no it isnt backwards compatible if anyone even payed attention to the announcement they said it wasnt backwards compatible but £300 for a next gen console BARGIN !!! seen as the ps3 was £425 on release this is cheap and and news like this will give microsoft a boot to get on with an next gen console so £300 for a PS4 brilliant was prepared to pay £450 - £500 so bargin seen as the wii U is the same price as this

I'll be getting this when it comes out, if it has good enough launch games I'll get it on launch. Then when the new Xbox is out I'll be doing the exact same thing :) Neither my 360 or my PS3 gets neglected for the other.

I did read the report which The Sun published but they didn't say the release date and the amount were correct. While I do hope the price would be £300 mark, The Sun quoted an "insider" for that information

Backwards compatible? You trolls need to get a grip. These companies spend hundreds of millions developing the consoles for you lot to want to play your OLD games on them? Keep the old console. Wait a minute, you're going to sell your console to help you buy the new one. So they should lose out because you are a cheapskate? If you play a game for over 100 hours then how is £50-60 too expensive? As most of the better games are 18 cert, those of the legal age have money to invest in entertainment. If you can't afford the systems/games stick to playing Angry Birds for free on your 3 megapixel smartphone.

PS4 sounds like its gonna be Awsome. Still gonna keep ps3 because its great. But next genaration consoles have to move forward with knew technology so we get a better experience and better games. Its for the best, and you'll see when the power of the PS4 is shown in its games. Splendidly Amazing. (Cant Wait, saving all year for it :)) Onimusha, suikoden, point blank, tenchu, age mythology would be nice to see Ridge racer type 4, berserk, Comand conguer old school style. revenge shinobi ..lol Golden axe, ghouls n ghost, streets rage, street fighter where you can create your own charachters, and glasses that put you into the world your playing in, most likey dragon age 3 or car games. Streets of rage remake like sleeping dogs :). Racster coming soon on PS4 yyyaayyy!

I agree the games are worth the money (Cash) They last us a long time for a couple of bucks depending which games you buy and the time and effort that goes into making them. And theres always trade and cash on top for new games. Playsation is doing something new. Re release games that come out on Platinum are cheaper 20 bucks. So thats good :)(Anyway if you have loads of games, its likely you wont play'em all and stop inbetween games) PS4 can be played on and off line, defo thinking about the customer. Playstation have really gone for it to give us a console that is truly next gen. The Best. Look after your customers and they'll look after you :) Thats why x-box is gonna be crap n scank cus all its fans are coming to PS4.

I'm not a gamer, but I am a Dad of 4, my 12 year old son is eagerly anticipating the release of the PS4, and my 15 and 13 year old are the same for the 720, but I think backwards ccompatibility is a great idea, specially for more recent games, obviously it won't be as good as the games designed for the specific console and you wouldn't expect any different but a console and one game is surely enough for 1 child for christmas, as the other consoles will not be sold as they're a good hand me down for the 6 year old. children like to be reminded of how good they got it with their new games and amazing graphics, just as I am amazed I played pong and later pac-man.

I am looking very forward for the release of the PlayStation 4. I plan to purchase it the first day it comes out no matter how much it will cost . I am a huge SONY fan and have been since day one. I have every single PlayStation console including the PlayStation Portable. I also have the original Xbox and the Xbox 360 however none of Microsoft's video game consoles apply to me since I prefer Japanese video game consoles rather then American I am and always will be a SONY fan no matter what.
