New Apple iPad delivers quad-core speed, 1080p video recording and more

Apple has finally launched the new iPad. The third generation Apple iPad is the fastest, fully-featured yet iPad yet combining a Retina Display, four times the speed of the iPad 2, a quad-core processor and full HD video recording. “We’ve taken it to a whole new level” says Apple.

“Everyone’s been wondering who will come out with a tablet that is better than the iPad 2? Everyone’s been wondering this. Well, stop wondering, we are,” Apple CEO Tim Cook boasted. Here’s what you need to know.

The new iPad remains similar in form to the iPad 2. It’s still 9.7-inches in size, and now packs a glossier 2048×1536 pixel Retina Display. Apple says text will be sharper than a newspaper. The Retina Display uses up more power. To fix this little problem Apple has created a new AX5 quad-core chip, and promise that the new iPad will have four times the performance of the iPad 2.

More features include what Apple calls a rear iSight camera – a 5-megapixel camera with auto exposure, auto-focus, auto-face detection, AF-Lock and more. Video recording has been numbed up a notch, too. The new iPad will record in full HD (1080p), boosted by video stabilisation and noise reduction.

The new iPad will also have voice dictation, and feature 4G LTE compatibility – that’ll come in handy for when the UK finally gets 4G connectivity. Trials for 4G are taking place this year. Contrary to rumours, the new iPad does not have Siri voice recognition.

Battery life will be 10 hours, decreasing to 9 hours on 3G. The new iPad is 9.4mm thin and weighs 1.5 pounds, and cost from $499. For a UK price guide – Apple confirmed that iPad prices will stay the same.

Pre-orders start from today. Will you pre-order one?

No mention about a "flash player". One big thing missing on an iPad when browsing websites. Glenn

Lol apple will never do flash, Just use an app like LogMeIn that allows your pc/laptop to run flash then stream it to the device, sorted.

It, doesn't have a quad core processor, hence it is not called the A6. The A5X is a dual core CPU with quad core graphics. Apple's website shows this clearly on the tech specs page for the new iPad.

Well, being an owner of the iPad 2 i see no reason to upgrade yet. Yes it's more powerful and better display, but really apps are all you need. I can't imagine 1080p reading catching on much, Gaming wise you can't beat physical controllers.

Did Asus come out with a real quad core (plus 1)core? ... as ever ithingy shows a white brick ,yet as ever everyone will want a white brick ... has the HTC one X also got true quad core.... in fact, as ever is the ithingy world about a year behind everyone else ...still you will get millions of blindless gimps buying one...and why? Cause its a white ithingy brick

I was thinking about the Asus, however it's Android and after having Android devices in the past, I for one will not return to using that. The thing with Apple products is that they work - even the experts will tell you this. I am in the market at the moment for a new tablet and I for one am certainly going to buy this by pre ordering for the 16th delivery. Regarding Flash....there are apps to give Flash, however that is old tech now thanks to HTML5. If you need help on any Apple products and apps then do what I did...just give them a call :)

Wait the ipad 1st gen weighed 1.5 pounds then with the ipad 2 they lowered it to 1.3 pounds.. now theyve raised it to 1.5 pounds again! not very Apple?

Why is everybody talking about flash? It's a dated technology, now being replaced by the likes of HTML 5. Even Adobe are realising this now. I'm sure the boffings at Apple wouldn't spend millions of dollars designing their products if something like flash was an issue. If there's a negative point about the new iPad, surely it's that they only stopped at 64GB storage.

No! Not a quad core chip, dual core, quad graphics. Just read this on 14th March, almost a week after the launch and you are still carrying this inaccuracy. Some other blogs made the same mistake but quickly corrected. Get it right guys.
