Lovefilm movie streaming comes to Kindle Fire HD, is Android next?
The Amazon Kindle Fire HD goes on sale in the UK today, but it’s no mere import of the US version. Lovefilm, the Amazon owned British movie rental and streaming service, will be baked right into the software, it’s been revealed today.
Fire up the Amazon Kindle Fire HD and you’ll find Lovefilm available through the Videos app, complete with the ability to put together your own watchlist of TV shows and films to watch. It works with Amazon’s clever X-Ray feature, letting you see actors and other information for the film you’re watching, and HD films work fine too. If you’re a Lovefilm customer already, you can link your account with your Amazon one straight through the app, or if not you can sign up for £4.99 per month.

The Amazon Kindle Fire HD is based on Google’s Android software, but this doesn’t mean Lovefilm video streaming is coming to other Android devices just yet: the company declined to comment when we asked if we could expect it soon. Given you can already stream Lovefilm movies on an iPad though, we’d hope it’s not too far off.
The only question is of course, is it too little too late? Netflix is already available on just about every platform imaginable, including all Android devices, even the Kindle Fire HD. But given Lovefilm’s streaming package is a pound cheaper per month and baked in, that might give it the edge. Let us know what you make of the move in the coments below.

I have a kindle fire from the US and I rooted it to run Android OS ICS4. Lovefilm do not support Android because Lovefilm has switched to Silverlight for its streaming service. So ... I would be really interested to know how they run Silverlight on Android? Particularly as Android is Linux and Silverlight is also not supported on Linux either that also stopped working when they switched the streaming service to Silverlight. Also Moonlight which is the Linux implementation of Silverlight does not have DRM support which is built into silverlight and is the reason Lovefilm switch to it. The film makers forced them to to protect their material. So the question really is how did Amazon get DRM support on LINUX/ANDROID/KINDLE FIRES??? They really must support android the first one to release an app will get my business .

Love Film have started to annoy me recently. I pay £120 a year, and I have noticed more and more films are not being made available to rent (Prometheus, for example - not even available to reserve). Couple this with the streaming service not being made available to Android users, I will be cancelling my subscription.
