Lovefilm and Twentieth Century Fox pair for exclusive movie and TV shows
Lovefilm has signed an exclusive deal with Twentieth Century Fox that will see more exclusive TV shows arrive on the on-demand service as early as next month, with exclusive movies for 2013. From July subscribers can watch early seasons of shows such as Sons of Anarchy, 24, Prison Break and more.
The Lovefilm and Twentieth Century Fox deal is just one of many tied up this year, following similar deals with Warner Bros., Sony Pictures, Disney and NBC among others.
Lovefilm: movie streaming overtakes physical DVDs for the first time
The deal brings some of the most-loved TV series from the US to the UK, with Lovefilm subscribers gaining early access. The deal kicks in from July, with early viewings of series such as Sons of Anarchy, 24, Prison Break, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Angel.
The movie part of the deal kicks in later. Films shown theatrically in 2011 will be made available to Lovefilm subscribers before anyone else in March 2013
Jim Buckle, MD of Lovefilm, said the deal will give subscribers access to the very best television the US has to offer.
“This partnership will give Lovefilm members access to the studio’s huge range of recent movies and the opportunity to revisit some of the best American TV series produced in recent years.”
The Lovefilm deal comes soon after it was revealed that movie streaming has overtaken physical DVDs for the first time. Streaming services are also gaining popularity on alternative formats, such as tablets. TV on tablets is now more popular than on desktop PCs. How do you watch movies? On the tablet, laptop, desktop, or television?
