Livescribe Sky: World’s smartest pen packs Wi-Fi!

We’ve checked out some of Livescribe’s “smart pens” before, clever ball-points with a dictaphone built in, as well as a camera to pair your notes with exactly what was said and when. They’ve impressed, but one of them have made note taking and syncing completely seamless. That changes today with the Livescribe Sky, the world’s first pen with Wi-Fi built in.

Previous Livescribe pens have had to be synced with a Livescribe app on your desktop computer to extract your notes and audio, but the Livescribe Sky does it automatically for you as soon as you’re within range of your Wi-Fi network. Better still, it syncs automatically with Evernote, so you can access your notes on almost any other device that can load the Evernote website or one of its many apps. Being able to tap on a note and hear the exact audio that was being said at that time isn’t just a useful tool for journalists and writers, but for anyone who has to sit in a lot of meetings.

The Livescribe Sky comes in 2, 4 and 8GB models, with the latter also giving you a year’s free subscription to Evernote Premium. Price starts at $169 (£105, we’re working on exact UK pricing right now) and you can see how the Livescribe Sky works in the video below. If you’re a notebook die-hard, this might be Christmas come early.
