Is Halo the most successful First Person Shooter ever?

Now that Halo developer Bungie is hanging up its Halo-shaped boots and handing the series over to 343 Industries, the studio has said a fond farewell to fans. As part of the sign off the company has pulled together a host of staggering facts, such as gameplay exceeds over 85 million days?

Halo has been something of a hit/miss love affair for most gamers. Starting back in 2001 with the original Halo: Combat Evolved on Xbox, the series has gone on to become a phenomenon success. If there was any doubt as to the impact Halo has had on gaming, Bungie has just disproven it by posting some stats showing how popular the game has been.

Top five remastered games you must play

To date the series has notched up over 135 billion kills spanning a total playtime period of over 85 million days. According to Bungie that adds up 235,182 years.

“In the collective time you’ve spent playing Halo you could have travelled across the expanse of the Milky Way at the speed of light…and back.” Consider our minds well and truly blown.

It all sets the scene nicely for Halo 4, which is expected to launch on Xbox 360 by Christmas 2012. If there was any doubt as to whether it’ll be a hit, check out the stats above. More super stats can be seen at Bungie.net. It’s safe to say that they are worth checking out, even just to impress your Halo-loving mates.

Is the Halo series the best shooter out there, even better than Call of Duty? Let us know your thoughts in the Comments below.
