iPhone 5 and iOS 6: Six new Siri commands you have to try today!

The iPhone 5 is out today, and with it comes an all-new Siri. The clever little voice assistant is now available on iPhone 5, the new fifth-gen iPod touch and the third generation iPad too, and it’s packing some new tricks too. Want to see what they are? Here are six of the best commands you can order Siri to serve up here in the UK!

Siri, navigate to…

While Siri could previously show directions on the iPhone 4S, that feature was only available in the US. It’s now available in the UK, and it’s a bit smarter too: it can immediately kick into turn by turn satnav mode, which is ideal if you’re going on a drive. So long, clunky TomTom!

What was the Arsenal score?

You can now ask Siri for sports scores, and it’ll deliver them to you in a neat table. It’s not just US sports either – Premiership scores are here, live and kicking in iOS 6. Rugby and cricket fans aren’t catered for though, sadly.

Tweet this

While it was possible to tweet using Siri before, it required a roundabout method that involved sending text messages you dictated to Twitter. No more! Now you can simply dictate your 140 character pearls of wisdom to it. You can even ask it to tweet your location as well.

What time is Looper showing?

In the UK, Siri can now not only show you movie information and reviews, it can also show you the listings for nearby cinemas, so you can find out when a film is on without the need for a keyboard of any sort.

Launch Spotify

Bizarrely, Spotify couldn’t launch apps before the iOS 6 update – Windows Phones meanwhile have been able to do this for a tear. No problems now though: fire it up and you can ask it to open any app you like.

I want Chinese food

Although Siri can still only make reservations for restaurants in North America and Mexico, you can use it to look up nearby restaurants and read reviews of them. Just tell it what you’re hankering for and away it goes.

You really need to proof read these posts. "Bizarrely, Spotify couldn’t launch apps before the iOS 6 update – Windows Phones meanwhile have been able to do this for a tear." Surely it should read: "Bizarrely, Siri couldn’t launch apps before the iOS 6 update – Windows Phones meanwhile have been able to do this for a year.'
