iPad Mini revealed at last: All the details!

The new iPad Mini is here! Apple made the slimmed down slate official at its press conference in San Jose, California, today, and as we expected, it’s got the the likes of the Google Nexus 7 and Amazon Kindle Fire HD well and truly in its sites. What can we expect? Read on and we’ll tell you.

It looks like those leaks were spot on – this is the iPad Mini we’ve been hearing about for weeks. Not that that’s a bad thing mind: the iPad Mini packs in a sharp 7.9-inch screen (with the same 1024×768 resolution as the iPad 2) that makes it much more portable than the full fat iPad, and it’s only 7.2mm thick, coming in black and white options like the iPhone 5.

Inside, it’s packing the A5 processor of the iPhone 4S and iPad 2, as well as a front FaceTime camera and a rear five megapixel camera and Apple’s Lightning port, and it runs iOS 6, as you’d expect. Where it stands out from its rivals is in connectivity: 3G and 4G options will be available, not just Wi-Fi tablets.

The new iPad Mini is set to go on sale on 2 November, with the 16GB Wi-Fi model starting at £269 – a full £110 more than the competition, but it still might be enough to tempt first time tablet buyers, especially since Apple will be flogging £35 smart covers to go with it. The 32GB Wi-Fi model will sell for £329, and the 64GB for £429. For 3G/4G options, you’ll have to add £100 extra, and they’ll be shipping a few weeks later.

Is the new iPad Mini what you hoped for? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

Too expensive for me. Might as well go Nexus 7 and wait for version 2 with faster speed and better screen

Love the ipad and apple in general, however, can't help but think that the ipad mini is priced too high. Was looking at one for my daughter but at that price might go android!

Way to expensive! I can buy 16GB Nexus7 + GoogleTV + Wireless Hard Drive for the price of one iPad Mini!

The 32gig wi-fi Nexus 7 will be released in time for Christmas at £199, plus there will be a 3G version soon too. It's pretty much half the price of the iPad mini, and just as good if not better.

Aww, it's a bit pricier than I hoped. But I will be buying one anyway, as it will be ideal to control my AR Drone, as I found Apple products control it much better than Android. However, will still be keeping my Nexus 7 for main use, as I can't bear to sell it.

I have 3 kids that are having mini tablets for Christmas, the new mini's are a little to expensive .... 3 nexus 7's have just been ordered how do they justify the price difference between the US and the UK???

looks good and sound good for the price but to with the 64gb you can almost get an iPad 2 for £329 wifi and 3G for 429 and would of expected a6x chip in it
