iPad-loving B&O BeoSound 8 dock revealed The gorgeous new BeoSound 8

Normally with iPhone docks you worry if the dock is good looking enough to be worthy of nestling Apple’s chic handset. The Bang & Olufsen BeoSound 8 may be one of the few docks we’ve seen that actually has the opposite problem.

B&O’s debut dock certainly does make all the right visual impressions, and the docking mechanism isn’t just good for your iPhone or iPod-touch, but can be widened to nestle an iPad gently on its brushed aluminium centrepiece.

But gorgeous though it might be, B&O is a company with a rich audio heritage, and the BeoSound 8 isn’t just a pretty face. Two 70W speakers, each one with its own pair of amps, should provide more sonic goodness than you’ll ever need, and aside from your favourite Apple gadget the BeoSound 8 can also stream music via Apple Airport Express, or receive tunes via USB or aux-in.

On sale at the end of November, the BeoSound 8 looks an enticing proposition, but you’ll need all of £895 to take the plunge. That’s just a few quid shy of the cost of an iPhone and iPad put together.

I ordered mine two weeks ago. My Apple kit is already verywell integrated with my B&O kit but this steps it up to a new level!

You are right it does have two 70W amplifiers in it, but these are helped by two further amplifiers that handle the Tweeters, It is a true active design with each pair of drivers having its "own" speaker cabinet, this combination improves the sound quality and stereo imagery.
