Forget the iPhone 5: LG preps new super phone of its own

It’s looking like the iPhone 5 is just around the corner, but that’s not the only monster smartphone about to be unleashed. LG’s launched a new site teasing its next-generation Android smartphone, and it looks like it’s a beast.

In LG’s home country of South Korea, the company has launched a teaser site and video talking up a monster new Android smartphone. We don’t get to see the device itself but you do get to see the outline in the video (Warning: It’s in Korean), and it’s looking like quite the svelte number.

iPhone 5 to pack same streaming skills as the Apple TV?

Perhaps more importantly, it looks like it’s packing the specs to blow the iPhone 5 out of the water too. LG has said that it’ll pack the latest quad-core S4 processor from silicon maker Qualcomm: it’s a second generation number that promises to be even faster than the quad-core phones already out there, such as the HTC One X and Samsung Galaxy S3.

All this information dovetails nicely with a recent report that LG is working on a new phone with 4G speeds, a 4.7-inch HD screen and a 13 megapixel camera, as well as a huge 2GB of memory to make multi-tasking a breeze.

There’s no word yet on when this mysterious LG Optimus phone will be released, but the company is promising five more videos, so at one per day it might make its debut at IFA in Germany this time next week.

Will this phone gives Apple’s iPhone 5 a run for its money? Let’s hear your thoughts in the comments below.

Looks like a great phone, but now that Apple was granted the possibility to stop any Android smartphone that poses a threat to them, how can anyone compete with them in a fair way?
