FIFA 13 Wii U GamePad features revealed: touchscreen shooting, tactical tinkering, new tackling and more

Football game FIFA 13 has been confirmed for the Nintendo’s Wii U, with exclusive Wii U GamePad features to be found only on Ninty’s new console. Among them: new ways to tackle, adjust tactics, take penalties and more. Here’s the lowdown on the new ways to play FIFA 13 on Wii U.

Microsoft Surface tablet out October 26th

When it arrives, FIFA 13 for Wii U will have new features you won’t find anywhere else. The guys at Official Nintendo Magazine have been given an inside look at some of these, with some interesting discoveries.

Each new feature will use Nintendo’s distinctive tablet-like GamePad, with a screen built in, in different ways. One of these will be optional touchscreen tackling.

Players will be able to switch between defenders by tapping on them on the Wii U GamePad’s Touchscreen, and command them to man-mark other players. The touchscreen will also let players pass the ball once they get hold of it.

Touchscreen shooting will let players more accurately aim. Either shaking the controller or pressing L3 will display an image of the goal for players to tap at.

One of the most revolutionary FIFA 13 changes is how players will take free kicks. Players can lift up the GamePad, and tilt the screen to aim, and put curve on the ball to bend it like Becks. By showing the viewpoint of the free kick taker, it is hoped that the GamePad will offer a more realistic way of shooting.

There’s something for those that like to dabble in the management and coaching side, too. The Nintendo Wii U GamePad will let players analyse player stats, and make team selections in a “Managers Hub”, and examine match statistics on the separate screen in players hands. An ability to make half-time team talks has been mentioned, but more on this has yet to be revealed.
