Fetch TV – new Freeview box outed FetchTV SmartBox 8320HD – new TV hero

A brand new Freeview HD box has been announced today – the FetchTV SmartBox 8320HD. It’s got a massive 320GB hard drive and comes packing Wi-Fi, and best of all, it’ll act as a media streamer for slinging media from a computer on your network.

It also has access to the FetchTV IPTV platform, so you’ll have access to video on demand, which will soon include even Sky Player.

There’s also a new-look UI, including picture in picture broadcasts. We’re told that it’ll also be delivered to the current standard definition Freeview FetchTV box too, for free.

The FetchTV SmartBox 8320HD will go on sale before July, and while no price has been set, the company behind it, IP Vision, is aiming for somewhere in the region of £220.

I hope you are going to do a review of the new Virgin V HD box that they are supposed to be releasing next Monday.

Have just purchased the 8320HD. Not particularly sexy to look at , well it's a black box which is fair enough provided it s does what it says on the box - Which with the 8320HD is the problem! The user interface is not the best in the world, ok maybe I've been spoilt by my other equipment. Setting up to record is not easy (compared to other systems) the functionality is there but you have to search for it. Has some little surprises like if you try and record one program, on playback it will show a different one, despite the title being correct. Explain that to your better half when they sit-down to watch Neighbours only to find a repeat of Top Gear! The most infuriating thing is the box demands registration insisting that you give them (FetchTV) information on your birthday, address, mobile phone number and credit card before allowing you to use the system you have just purchased to watch iPlayer . This could have been a great product, but looks as though marketing are ruling its functionality and design producing a product I would not want to own. Only purchase if you have a barge pole and a very long one at that - There are better products out there and not sure how long FetchTV will be around, if they go down the use of BBC iPlayer etc. goes with it.

on top of all this brian sed, the remote does'nt seem to work properly. audio keeps going out of sync. programs i record regularly have the first or last five minutes removed. and the frame rate / refresh rate is so bad i feel i may as well have bought a strobe light to sit and watch instead. and yes i have done the software upgrade. this product is awfull. which is why its cheap. oh and you dont even get a manual with it! they say there's one on the web site but adobe reader sez its damaged. tesco's is trying to sell us inferior electrical equipment.
