Energy Android Smart TV box brings apps to the big screen on a budget
The Energy Android Smart TV box is not the only Google-powered box to plug in to your flatscreen and take on the Apple TV. But unlike Google’s own Google TV devices, this one runs any apps that you like.
The Energy Android Smart TV, from Spanish gadget manufacturer Energy Sistem, is a tiny little box which for €89.90 (£70) does an awful lot. It can play back videos on full HD, and connects to the internet over Ethernet or Wi-Fi.

Unlike rivals like the Apple TV however, the Energy Android Smart TV can also act as a TV tuner, and even record digital TV broadcasts. You get 4GB of internal storage, and you can bump that up another 64GB with an SD card slotted in the side.
On top of that, it runs Android 4.0, so you can install any app you please, not just the ones optimised for Google TV, and even control them with a keyboard and mouse: three USB ports mean you can plug in peripherals as you please. And with free media centre service XBMC for Android now available, this could be a serious candidate for prime place under your telly.
The Energy Android Smart TV is available from 27 August on Energy Sistem’s website, and will also be available to order through Amazon.co.uk in the near future. Like what you see? Hit the comments to share your view.
