Crysis 3: leaked screenshots reveal New York jungle setting
A bunch of gorgeous Crysis 3 screenshots have leaked online, giving gamers a beautiful glimpse of the New York rainforest setting for the shooter that doesn’t hit the shops until next year. Could this be the best looking shooter of 2013? Here’s a lowdown on what to expect from the anticipated threequel.
Its predecessor Crysis 2 had players exploring a New York City invaded by alien lifeforms. In Crysis 3, players will play the role of ‘Prophet’, who returns to New York City to discover that it has been encased in a dome that has transformed the urban sprawl into an overgrown rainforest.
iPhone 5 out September 21st, iPad Mini, too?
Although Crysis 3 won’t appear in shops until 2013, some lush-looking screenshots have surfaced, giving fans a closer look at some of the leafy settings players will be exploring.
The screenshots were posted (here) by Crysis 3 lighting artist Pierre-Yves Donzallez (via The Verge). They have since been taken down, but not before we’ve all had a chance to witness how we can expect the game to look come 2013.
The vegetation-rich setting will provide new obstacles and hazards, as players will waddle through water, navigate leafy mazes and no doubt have to contend with enemies capable of blending into the more natural surroundings. Think back to 80’s film Predator and you’ll get the idea. Prophet will even be armed with a bow and arrow – a first for the series.
With the help of the developer Crytek’s CryENGINE graphical power combined, it’s a given that Crysis 3 will be one of the best looking shooters, when it lands on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 next year. Battlefield 4 should also be out next year.
Until then gamers will have to keep themselves busy with 2012 shooters Halo 4 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. It sounds like a good time to be a first-person shooter fan.
