Creative Sound Blaster Evo ZxR: Brand new headphones pack surround sound skills
The E3 gaming expo is hogging the limelight right now, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t other new gadgets to ogle this week. Say hello to one powerful new gizmo vying for your attention: Creative’s Sound Blaster Evo ZxR headphones, with sonic smarts that can even fix your compressed digital downloads for you on the fly.
The new cans from the media gurus at Creative pack a dedicated Sound Blaster chip inside, which can process and refine audio in realtime: the company says its built in Crystalizer technology can even upscale a low bit audio source to 24 bit clarity, meaning your puny MP3 files sound closer to CD quality, even when slung wirelessly over Bluetooth.
You can also field calls through your smartphone with the Evo ZxRs too, and dual mics help make sure your mate on the other end of the line can still hear you. They’re in their element in the home as well though: plug them into a Windows PC via USB and they’ll show up as a 7.1 surround sound headset, and the 50mm neodymium drivers on board make sure they sound like them too. They can even pick out dialogue in videos and accentuate it without raising overall volume, if you’re always struggling to catch what’s going on in the latest Scandinavian murder mystery.
Want a pair to call your own? Better start saving: a pair of Sound Blaster Evo ZxRs will set you back £249.99. But what price would you pay for surround sound on the go?
