Countdown to Sony Xperia with Facebook Likes

Sony has revealed a countdown on its Facebook page to the launch of its next Sony Xperia smartphone, rumoured to be the Sony Xperia GX. We won’t get to see what the product is until the countdown reachers zero, but that can change. The more Facebook Likes and clicks the page receives, the sooner the new smartphone gets unveiled.

The post currently shows that the reveal will be made in six days time. But that could have trickled down to anything by the time you read this.

Click the Fast Forward button on the Sony Xperia Facebook page and the timer will shave off a few seconds off the countdown, followed by the message “Amazing, your click has moved the next Xperia announcement another step closer.”

The clever promotion has already had an impact. Without the clicks, the announcement would have been made on 22nd June, but thanks to the eagerness of gadget fans, the next Xperia smartphone will be announced sooner, on 12th June. Or earlier still, with your help.

The device rumoured to be unveiled is the Sony Xperia GX – a blazingly fast 1.5GHz dual-core Android 4.0 smartphone with 720p HD capability, a 4.6-inch display, and a 13- megapixel camera fitted with Sony’s EXMOR R sensor, and 8GB of internal flash memory.

The Sony Xperia GX is a gorgeous bit of kit that we know is launching in Japan, so here’s hoping it’s the same device heading to the UK to do battle with the Samsung Galaxy S3 and incoming quad-core devices such as LG’s Optimus 4X HD, arriving in the UK in the coming months.
