Bose SoundLink Air: new AirPlay speaker arrives for iPhone 5
The timing of the Bose SoundLink Air couldn’t have been better. Just hours after the unveiling of the iPhone 5, the audio guru has whipped the covers off its first ever wireless AirPlay system for slinging tunes all over your house without the wires.
The Bose SoundLink Air system is a speaker that lets you stream music from Apple’s iOS devices and Macs and PCs to wherever it is: just connect it your home Wi-Fi network and you’re good to go. Its design isn’t as out-there as the B&W Zeppelin, but it does ooze German efficiency.
And because it’s AirPlay, backwards compatibility isn’t a problem: your swanky new iPhone 5 won’t with its smaller Lightning connector won’t need to be plugged in anyway. You can also take it around with you – Bose sells a separate battery unit for £89.95.
iPhone 5 official: Hands on preview!
Alongside the Bose SoundLink Air system, bose has unleashed a new SoundLink Mobile Speaker II, a battery powered device with similar looks that can play music streamed over Bluetooth.
The Bose SoundLink Air system and SoundLink Mobile are on sale today, priced up at £299.95 and £249.95 respectively.

Good sound from this device but very unstable. We only have very random access to it on the airplay toggle on our iPads and iTouch. There appears to be no way to force it to reveal itself on the airplay button. We have had it about a week and will be returning it. Disappointing and "half baked" device from Bose. Bose support say "that's strange, it should work", I have to agree with them, for £370 (incl battery) it absolutely should work!
