Borderlands coming to iPhone and iPad!
If you’ve just been playing the well received Borderlands 2, we’ve got some exciting news for you this cold Monday: the team behind the sprawling shooter have been secretly working on an iPhone and iPad game to go with it, and it’s headed our way soon.
The Borderlands series, from developer Gearbox Software looks set to get a little brother: an advert has been spotted online for the new “Borderlands Legends”, designed specifically for mobile and tablet, and out on iPhone and iPad as soon as this month.
The Borderlands Legends description doesn’t give too much away, but it does reveal that you’ll be able to play as some of the returning characters from the 2009 original: Roland, Lilith, Mordecai and Brick. It promises a “strategic cover system” which sounds much like the cover-based shooting gameplay of Gears of War, as well as in-app power up purchases and, intriguingly, “randomized missions” suggesting the game might have infinite replay value.
The Borderlands series takes the typical shooter and adds a twist by adding in “levelling” and character progress like a swords-and-sorcery roleplaying game, and it’ll be interesting to see if the concept works well on mobile too – and whether Gearbox has plans to put Borderland Legends on Android too. Stay tuned; we’ll keep you posted.
