BMW C Evolution: stylish eco scooter for the city commuter

BMW has been showing off its latest plan to change the way we commute – the brand new C Evolution electric scooter. The environmentally-conscious scooter is built for those that commute from the suburbs to the city, capable of traveling for 100 kilometres on a single charge.

A working prototype has already been unveiled and driven on streets of London. The BMW C Evolution is not on sale yet, but it will be only a matter of time until the distinctive scooter hits the streets.

BWM says it is the next step in electric scooters, promising unexpected power and performance. With the C Evolution, BMW is also promising an emissions-free ride, with speeds of up to 120 kilometres per hour, and travel for up to 100 kilometres on a single charge. BMW will be hoping the scooter is popular with those that travel into the city from their suburb.

The C Evolution can be charged using a household electric socket, or at a charging station within a city. The C Evolution will fully charge within three hours. What BMW calls ‘Intelligent recuperation’ means the C Evolution can generate electricity automatically using a generator when decelerating.

A digital display shows riders how much juice is left, speed and more at a glance. And a low centre of gravity helps to deliver an agile ride, easy handling and comfy experience, says BMW, who are calling the C Evolution a “step forward towards green mobility.”

A price has yet to be announced, but it is thought that such a scooter could cost around the £14k mark. Would you be seen driving one of these? Let us know in the comments below.

I'd happily us one of these. I think it looks great and got good spec and charge time. £14k is a bit steep though.

14,000 for a scooter? You could buy two brand new cars for that. More importantly, with that money you could buy a new conventional scooter, ride it for 40,000 miles (fuel, insurance, tax and maintenance included) and then throw it away and do the same again.... 3 times! 20 years of scooter-ing for the same money.

Great concept and getting there in respect of the battery life. However 14k for this is way too much and is a plaything for the rich and pretentious. Looh what Honda offer for £1,800 http://www.honda.co.uk/motorcycles/scooters/#!/vision110/ 141mpg. I know we need to go forward but lets be realistic, the cost of this scooter is more than BMW's flagship adventure GS1200, which even with all the options is still less than C Evolution and you can go round the world on the GS, Just like Ewan and Charlie.

14K!!!! for a scooter, you could easily buy 10 scooters (not that you would) & still have change left over....the looks are very good as is the charging time but why buy this. it just seems to be an over-expensive way to save the environment (which BMW want to cash in on..)
