Best games out this week: Ghost Recon Future Solider, DiRT Showdown, Dragon’s Dogma, WWE ’12 Wrestlemania, Mario Tennis Open

If you’re growing tired of your video game collection, it’s time for a refresh. This weekend sees a handful of top quality games hit the shelves. We’ve picked out five for Xbox 360, PS3 and Nintendo 3DS, with something for everyone. From third-person army shooters to wrestling, here’s a handful of games worth picking up this week.

DiRT: Showdown preview

Each of the following games hit the shops this Friday, giving you plenty of time to play over the weekend. To help you decide which to go for we’ve rounded up what each one has to offer. Which will you be picking up?

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier

A military shooter, yes, but Ghost Recon: Future Soldier isn’t the Call of Duty clone some believe it to be. Tactics and clever play is the order of the day in this military masterclass. Every effort has been made to create an experience as close to being realistic as possible. Play it in co-op and the game’s tactical options open up, as you and other players work together and rely on each other to breach enemy bases without raising the alarm. It’s nail-biting, tense stuff.

DiRT: Showdown

DiRT Showdown is a fun spinoff off the DiRT rally games combining the slightly arcade feel and drift mechanics of PS3 racer Motorstorm, the destruction of Burnout: Paradise and the competitive nature of the classic Destruction Derby. Racing tournaments, stunts, and car-smashing gameplay make DiRT: Showdown worth donning the crash helmet for.

Dragon’s Dogma

From the creators of Resident Evil, Dragon’s Dogma boasts vast open worlds to explore, with enough room to swing a sword or two in anger, in this most involving of adventures where players get to hone their characters fighting skills throughout. With lots of depth, customisation, exploration and plenty of enemies to engage in deep combat, there’s plenty to love for those that love a bit of dragon-slaying, goblin-fighting fantasy.

WWE ’12 Wrestlemania

If you’re a fan of wrestling games and were thinking of picking up WWE 12, it might be worth thinking about the WWE 12 Wrestlemania Edition instead. It’s out this Friday, packing in past downloadable extras such as wrestlers The Rock, Shawn Michaels, Jerry “The King” Lawler, Jim Ross, and alternative clothing choices for a number of its lycra-clad stars.

Mario Tennis Open

The dungaree-wearing-red-capped plumber is back. Super Mario’s latest adventure this time round isn’t about saving the princess, it’s all about sporty tennis fun with some of Nintendo’s most recognisable characters from Donkey Kong to Bowser. Mario Tennis Open features exhibition modes, special matches and tournaments to get stuck into in this just-for-fun tennis sim.
