Augmented reality billboards: Download albums on the go!
Video billboards? So last decade. Aurasma, the augmented reality app developer, is pioneering a whole new way of advertising that even serves up the product straight to your phone: read on to see how you can now download brand new music tracks straight from the bus stop.
You might have heard rapper Devlin’s catchy new tune Watchtower, which features singing sensation Ed Sheeran, but even if you haven’t, it’s unlikely you’ll miss the clever new billboard ads for it. Two thousand of these posters are scattered across the land, and if you hold up your phone to them they’ll do something very clever indeed.
Fire up the Aurasma augmented reality app (available on Android and iPhone), and hover the camera over it, and a virtual gig will kick off straight on your blower’s screen. You’ll see a clip from the video for Watchtower, and be prompted with a link to download the single from the iTunes store too.
It’s a smart move from Aurasma and Devlin’s label, Island Records. Where as QR codes on other posters simply dump you on a website, with this technology it’s actually possible to buy the product there and then. You can check out the video demo of how it works here, and hit the comments to let us know if you’ll be buying.
