Angry Birds Heikki racing game set to hit the road!
Angry Birds Heikki is the latest game from Angry Birds developer Rovio. A new teaser website suggests those Angry Birds will be swapping space for the fast lane, in a new Angry Birds racing game out on 18th June. Think Mario Kart, but with Angry Birds. It’s likely to be the next big thing in mobile gaming.
With over 10 million downloads in just three days for Angry Birds Space it would be difficult to argue otherwise. But far from more bird-flinging adventures, it looks like Rovio is planning something different this time round.
Head over to Heikki.angrybirds.com and you’ll see a teaser with checkered flags, and an Angry Bird with what appears to be a racing circuit reflected in its eyes. Tellingly the site links to the personal website of Finnish F1 racer Heikki Kovalainen.
The move to racing shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise for gaming fans. Lots of popular gaming series and characters have made the transition to the track, the most famous of all being Super Mario in Mario Kart, Diddy Kong in Diddy Kong Racing for the Nintendo 64, and most recently LittleBigPlanet’s Sackboy in LittleBigPlanet Karting on PS3.
The original Angry Birds game has to date notched over one billion downloads, so the new Angry Birds formula will have a lot to live up to. Also in the works is Rovio’s non-Angry Birds follow-up Amazing Alex.
Amazing Alex is a physics-based game centering on a boy that loves to build things. The aim is to trigger chains of events that lead to achieving a goal, in levels that get progressively challenging come the end of this summer. Which game are you most looking forward to? Share your thoughts below.
