Android Market clears 100K app mark
Android users now have more than 100,000 apps to choose from
Google’s Android Market now has in excess of 100,000 apps to choose from – and that’s official.
It’s certainly not the first time the claim has been made recently, but given the fact that this time it’s Google itself doing the claiming, we’re inclined to take it as fact.
The news was revealed in a tweet on the Android Developer account, and comes just two short years since the Android Market first opened.
And with a steady stream of high-powered Android devices crowding the marketplace – not to mention a rapid development curve that could see as many as three new versions of Google’s OS hit the market in the next 12 to 18 months, it’s unlikely that the momentum in new apps being surfaced will slow down.
In terms of apps, Android is now by some margin the closest – and many would argue only – competition to Apple’s still-dominant App Store for iOS, which is now closing in on 300,000 apps.

Obviously Apple is leading the market and all in all is much better than other app stores, but it's nice to see another company getting in on apps. Android is growing faster and has a lot more range of phones to choose from than Apple, which is another good thing. Could Android be the app market of the future?
