Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 on sale now! Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 on sale now!

One of Amazon’s latest range of Kindle Fire tablets is now on sale. As the name suggests, the Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 has an 8.9-inch screen, along with the latest version of Amazon’s own Fire operating system, which brings some neat new features to play.

X-Ray lets you explore the structure of a book. Tap the X-Ray icon, and you’ll be able to view a list of all passages in the book containing a character, idea or topic you’re interested in. It also brings in more info from Wikipedia and Shelfari, which is Amazon’s community-powered encyclopaedia for book lovers.

Mayday, meanwhile, brings you help from a real-live person right on your screen. Tap the icon, and an Amazon helper appears on your tablet, so they can run you through where you’re going wrong. They can even draw on the screen, to point you in the right direction.

Kindle Fire HDX: How Amazon stole the best of Android and Apple

The Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 weighs just 374g, which is 34 per cent lighter than the previous incarnation.

It features an 8-megapixel camera on the back that’s capable of capturing 1080p HD footage, and a front-facer that films in 720p for video calls.

You can check out more specs on the product page. The device costs £329, which is £130 more than the 7-inch Google Nexus 7.
