Amazon Kindle Fire 2: three new models on the way?

We’re still waiting for Amazon to officially launch its Amazon Kindle Fire here in the UK. However, that hasn’t stopped our excitement at the possibility. Now word has reached us that for the forthcoming Kindle Fire 2 tablet launch, the company is planning not one, but three different models in 7-inch and 8.9-inch variants, the latter with a full HD display.

Reports in Taiwan say that we will see three different versions of Amazon’s Android tablet. There will be three versions: two 7-inch models and an 8.9-inch. The 7-inch models, like the original Amazon Kindle Fire will have a 1024×600 pixel and 1280×800 pixel resolution.

Here’s where it gets more exciting. The third tablet, the 8.9-inch model will have a fully HD 1920 x 1200 display. Sounds like an iPad competitor to us, especially if it’ll be as competitively priced as the original model. The current 7-inch Amazon Kindle Fire currently fetches $199.

It was previously reported that Amazon would release a 9-inch model capable of rivalling Apple’s new iPad, so current reports appear to be in line with those earlier claims we’ve been hearing about. But it’ll take much more than a new model to put a dent in Apple’s dominance. The new iPad got off to a flying start, selling over 3 million units in its opening weekend alone.

Meanwhile it’s been a busy week for Amazon. The company just announced that its Amazon Kindle Touch and Kindle Touch 3G will go on sale in the UK on April 27th. Amazon.co.uk is currently taking orders on a first come first served basis, so those wanting one had better make a move.

Are you pre-ordering or holding out hope for the Amazon Kindle Fire 2? Let us know your thoughts in the Comments below.

Kindle Fire 2? We haven't even seen the first one yet in the UK. I wish Amazon would finally pull their finger out, and release it sometime, like NOW.
