Acer Iconia Tab A110: Android 4.0 tablet for less than £130?

The iPad has some new competition on its hands, after Acer unveiled an Android tablet said to cost less than £130. The Acer Iconia Tab A110 is a 7-inch Android tablet, powered by an Nvidia Tegra 3 processor, that could both change the tablet landscape, and put a dent in Apple’s tablet sales as a cheaper alternative to the iPad.

The 7-inch Acer Iconia Tab A110 may not have the instant desirability of the iPad, or even the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, but the presence of a capable, and cheap tablet is sure to encourage potential tablet adopters think twice about laying down a minimum £399 for the new iPad. It’s so new there isn’t even an official photo of it yet!

Amazon Kindle Fire 2 rumours surface again, but still no UK love

One of the problems with cheap tablets is that the user experience isn’t always up to scratch, but with an Android 4.0 interface, and a more than capable processor, the Acer Iconia Tab A110 already looks promising.

In terms of specs, we’re talking an Nvidia Tegra 3 quad core processor, 1GB of RAM, microSD card slot, front-facing camera, HDMI connectivity for sharing video with your HD TV, and of course, that Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.

There has long been talk of a 7-inch Apple iPad Mini being on the horizon. The rumoured iPad is reported to come in at around the same size, offering the same iPad features, at a cheaper price.

If smaller, cheaper tablets are the way forward, it looks like Acer, for now has the drop on Apple in that department (for now at least), but whether the Iconia Tab A110 can in any way match the user experience of the iPad is something we’ll have to wait to find out. We are talking about a budget tablet device after all, but the kind of tablet likely to tempt many to make their first foray into tabletdom.
